Silva defeated Clay Guida via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Austin, Texas.
ANALYSIS
Silva had no chance in his most recent bout, a knockout loss to Arman Tsarukyan this past June, but he handled his business here against the veteran Guida. This was very much the tale of two fights. Silva got his striking going and looked comfortable in Rounds 1 and 3, while he gave up a pair of takedowns and found himself grounded much of Round 2. It was nice to see Joaquim finish strong given the fact Guida's cardio and energy are legendary. The Brazilian has alternated wins and losses in his past four fights. That's not going to get it done given the fact Silva will be 35 years of age next February.

It ended up being a wise move as Silva picked up his first victory since December 2018 and likely saved his job in the process. Long known for his knockout power, Silva clipped Ronson with a perfectly timed knee which completely turned the tide of the fight in Round 2. Ronson was never able to recover and Silva had his stoppage win shortly thereafter. The Brazilian will be 34 years of age this coming February, so it's imperative he get back in the octagon as quickly as possible following this win.
