Picks up win in Bellator debut
LightweightBellator
August 25, 2019
Newell defeated Corey Browning via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 3:15 of Round 1 at Bellator 225 on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Newell has been a true underdog story with an outstanding career to date. He was given a chance at the UFC via Dana White's Contender series last summer, but came up short with a unanimous decision loss. He since bounced back with a submission win over Antonio Castillo Jr. under the CES banner, which got the attention of Scott Coker and Bellator brass. Now with a win, the promotion will see how far up the ranks Newell -- who was born with a left arm amputation below the elbow -- can make it.

Nick Newell: Announces retirement from MMA competition
LightweightBellator
October 17, 2015
Following his unanimous decision win over Tom Marcellino at WSOF 24 on Saturday in Connecticut, Newell announced his retirement from active MMA competition.
ANALYSIS
Considering that Newell was born with a congenital amputation of his right arm, he had a fantastic career. His only loss came against undefeated lightweight champion Justin Gaethje in July of last year. It's not a surprise, but Newell would have had problems against more talented fighters with just one arm. He certainly had a nice run and hopefully he earned himself some financial stability for the future.
