Joanne Calderwood

Title shot delayed
March 31, 2020
Calderwood is no longer scheduled to face Valentina Shevchenko in a flyweight title fight June 6 at UFC 251 at Perth with Shevchenko planning to withdraw due to an unspecified injury, Danny Segura of USA Today reports.
The coronavirus pandemic had already posed a threat to the event being postponed entirely, but the injury to Shevchenko will delay Calderwood's chance to claim the flyweight belt. Calderwood noted Tuesday in an Instagram Live session that she's hoping for the fight to be rebooked in either July or August, seemingly suggesting that Shevchenko's injury isn't a long-term concern. After getting off to a 3-2 start to her time in the UFC, Calderwood has gone 3-1 since moving up to the 125-pound division.

Calderwood will face Valentina Shevchenko is a flyweight title fight at UFC 251 on June 6, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
Coming off one of the biggest victories of her career -- a split-decision win over Andrea Lee at UFC 242 in September -- Calderwood will get a chance to dethrone Shevchenko, the current flyweight champion. Shevchenko is coming off a successful title defense against Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 247 earlier in the month.
Given medical suspension

Calderwood has been given a medical suspenssion up to six months due to a nasal issue, Dave Doyle of reports.
Calderwood defeated Andrea Lee via split-decision at UFC 242, one of the most important victories of her career, but she will now have to sit out awhile before she can build on that momentum. The nasal issue she is dealing with is a result of the fight. A mid-March return could be possible if she ends up serving her full suspension.
Digs deep to get hand raised
September 7, 2019
Calderwood defeated Andrea Lee via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28) at The Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
Calderwood seemed outgunned by the strength and wrestling of her opponent in the clinch in Round 1, but it looked as though her opponent faded in the desert heat, which allowed JoJo to stay on her feet and establish her striking. Calderwood dropped a controversial decision to Katlyn Chookagian in June but seems to be finding a late-career surge, having won three of her last four fights. She improves to 14-4 in professional MMA as a result of the victory.
Booked for UFC 242
July 3, 2019
Calderwood will take on Andrea Lee in a flyweight bout at UFC 242 on Sept. 7, John Morgan of MMA Junkie reports.
Calderwood is coming off a loss just under a month ago to Katlyn Chookagian via unanimous decision at UFC 238. That put an end to what was a two-fight winning streak and she has now dropped three of her last five UFC bouts. Calderwood should be in for another competitive outing with both women ranked in the top 15 of the flyweight division.
Fails to sway the judges
June 8, 2019
Calderwood lost to Katlyn Chookagian via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 238 on Saturday in Chicago.
Calderwood was able to score with her leg kicks, but Chookagian got the better of her in terms of head strikes. In the end, the judges appreciated Chookagian's work much more. Calderwood had won back-to-back fights coming into this one, but the loss stops any and all momentum.
