Wiman was released by the UFC on Wednesday, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wiman recently lost to Jordan Leavitt via KO (slam) at UFC on ESPN 19 on Dec. 5, and the 37-year-old will now be let go by the promotion. He was successful with the UFC during his time from May 2006 to November 2014, but he was never able to find much of a rhythm after returning from a five-year hiatus in 2019, losing his last three fights under the UFC banner. Given his recent struggles, it's unclear whether he'll choose to continue fighting professionally.

Wiman lost to Jordan Leavitt via KO (slam) at 0:22 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 19 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
There isn't much to breakdown here from a technical standpoint. Wiman found himself all but unconscious following a vicious slam from Leavitt just moments into the fight. Referee Chris Tognoni was on top of the situation, but it was clear as day to anyone watching that Wiman was done for. Thankfully, he appeared to be fine following the fight. Wiman was with the UFC from May 2006 to November 2014. He returned to the company in June 2019 following many years on the sidelines and has since dropped all three of his bouts. The odds of the 37-year-old appearing again for the UFC appear to be slim, and that's probably the best result for all parties involved.
Paired against Jordan Leavitt

November 18, 2020
Wiman will take on Jordan Leavitt in a lightweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for Dec. 5 in Las Vegas, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Wiman's return to the UFC after a near-five-year hiatus hasn't gone well so far, as he's dropped fights to Luis Pena (TKO) and Joe Solecki (unanimous decision). The 37-year-old will be given what could be his last chance against Leavitt, a fighter who will only be making his UFC debut after earning a first-round submission on Dana White's Contender Series. While WIman has never been submitted in his career, his takedown defense sits at a below-average 56 percent. Look for Leavitt to use a wrestling-based approach as he looks to exploit that.
Dominated by Joe Solecki

Wiman lost to Joe Solecki via unanimous decision (26-30, 26-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Washington D.C.
ANALYSIS
It's truly difficult to last the entire 15 minutes and look as bad as Wilman did on Saturday. The 36-year-old allowed the debuting Solecki to do whatever he wanted inside the octagon. Wilman landed just 20 total strikes over the course of the 15-minute bout, a near impossible task. He returned to the UFC in June following nearly five years away from the company and has dropped both of his bouts since returning. There just isn't a whole heck of a lot to see here.
Booked for DC card

December 2, 2019
Wiman will take on Joe Solecki in a lightweight matchup at UFC DC on Dec. 7, Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wiman hadn't fought in the UFC since 2014 prior to returning against Luis Pena in June, so it seems the 36-year-old is making up for lost time. While he was finished in the third round against Pena, perhaps that shook out the cobwebs and will position him for an improved against Solecki, who is 8-2 as a professional and got his shot on Dana White's Contender Series. This will be Solecki's official UFC debut.
Gets manhandled after long abscence

June 22, 2019
Matt Wiman lost to Luis Pena via TKO (punches) at 1:14 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night 154 in Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
This was Wiman's first fight since November of 2014 and it showed, as he tried to work a series of leg locks that were very unlikely to succeed against someone as long and skilled as Pena. Wiman actually had his few moments of success on the feet in this fight, ending some nice combos with leg kicks, but it wasn't long before Pena got a hold of him and continued his ground assault. There really is no telling if Wiman will continue on after that performance, but it seems clear his game needs a bit of a stylistic update in order to reap benefits. He falls to 16-8 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
