Gloria de Paula

Quickly finished in Vegas

De Paula lost to Cheyanne Buys via TKO (strikes) at 1:00 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 28 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
De Paula dropped a unanimous decision to Jinh Yu Frey in her company debut this past March, so she is clearly trending in the wrong direction. She had just gotten up off the mat when Buys nearly took her head off with a kick. It was academic from there. De Paula earned his UFC opportunity with a victory on Dana White's Contender Series, but she had no real history of sustained success in her native Brazil, and there is no real reason to expect a breakthrough despite the fact she just turned 26 years old this past June.

Drops decision in UFC debut

De Paula lost to Jinh Yu Frey via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
It was a lousy effort from de Paula in her company debut despite entering as a -200 favorite. The Brazilian earned her UFC opportunity with a decision win on Dana White's Contender Series this past November, but Frey pinned her to the mat without issue for the better part of two rounds and that was all the judges needed to see. De Paula is much better on the feet than the ground and her opposition will continue to take advantage of that weakness until she proves she can improve in that area.

Gets contract despite decision
November 17, 2020
De Paula defeated Pauline Macias via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 29-28) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, she was one of four fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
This was a fight de Paula was expected to win, as she entered as a (-260) betting favorite, had size advantages and was going up against an opponent without a victory over a fighter with a winning record. While de Paula didn't get the finish due to the tremendous chin of Macias, she still dominated this one from bell to bell. The times she was taken down didn't last long, and she was able to fire off a bit of offensive wrestling of her own. De Paula was successful with her striking both at a distance and in the clinch, techniques evident of her Chute Boxing training. At just 25 years old, there's plenty of time for the Brazilian to grow into her own in the strawweight division.
