Smashes Aalon Cruz in UFC debut
February 29, 2020
Carlyle defeated Aalon Cruz via TKO (punches) at 1:25 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Norfolk, Virginia.
In addition to having one of the best nicknames in the sport ("The Alpha Ginger"), Carlyle showed plenty of game as a late-notice replacement in his UFC debut. He battered Cruz in an exchange along the fence and eventually earned the quick stoppage. The issue for Carlyle is that one of the elbows he landed appeared to be illegal and novice referee Scott Howard didn't bother to admonish him. There will almost certainly be an appeal from Cruz and his camp given the fact he has nothing to lose. Situations like this rarely get overturned, but we shall see. It was an excellent, unexpected performance from Carlyle regardless of the end result.
