Can't handle takedown pressure
FeatherweightUFC
November 7, 2020
Garagorri lost to Darren Elkins via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:22 of Round 3 at UFC on ESPN+ 40 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Garagorri stuck Elkins with a left hand early, but was taken down shortly thereafter. Garagorri made it back to his feet a couple times but was taken right back down on each occasion. He finally broke away with a minute remaining in the round and even landed a head kick, but Elkins used it to take him right back down and finish the frame on top. After getting taken down five times in the first, it was more of the same to start Round 2. Despite starting to visibly tire, Garagorri looked excellent on the feet, landing with regularity and power. Elkins did put the exclamation point on the round, however, picking Garagorri up and slamming him in the center of the cage. Garagorri landed a few more massive shots in the early going of Round 3, but "The Damage" walked right through them and eventually grabbed hold of a leg and turned it into a body lock. He made Garagorri carry his weight for a moment before locking in the choke, which sent Garagorri falling to the canvas and eventually tapping. Garagorri now falls to 1-2 in the UFC. He clearly has some talent in the striking department but needs to work on the takedown defense if he intends to stick around for the long haul.

Bout set for Nov. 7
FeatherweightUFC
September 29, 2020
Garagorri will take on Darren Elkins in a featherweight matchup at the UFC event Nov. 7, Raphael Marinho of Combate.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Garagorri was forced to withdraw from his fight on Sept. 19 due to a positive COVID-19 test in his corner, but it didn't take long for the UFC to announce his next fight. The 31-year-old Uruguayan prospect will be looking to come back from his first career loss last November against Ricardo Ramos. It will be just the third appearance under the UFC banner, while Elkins has made the walk to the Octagon on 22 separate occasions. Elkins may be on his last legs, however, as his brawling style has seemed to finally catch up with him to the tune of four consecutive losses. To be successful here, Garagorri will also have to defend takedowns, as his opponents have gotten him to the mat six times in two UFC fights, while Elkins averages 2.43 takedowns per 15 minutes of fight time.

Garagorri has withdrawn from his fight against Mirsad Bektik on Saturday, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
One of Garagorri's corner men reportedly tested positive for COVID-19. There is a search for a replacement underway, but it's also likely that this fight gets rebooked with the UFC returning to Yas Island in a few weeks. Garagorri is coming off the first loss of his UFC career back in November of 2019 against Ricardo Ramos.

Garagorri (13-1-0) is scheduled to face Mirsad Bektic (13-3-0) in a featherweight fight at UFC 253 on Sept. 19, Mike Bohn of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Garagorri took his first career loss in his last visit to the Octagon in November 2019, when Ricardo Ramos defeated him via submission (rear-naked choke). The 31-year-old Brazilian won in his promotional debut last August in Uruguay.
Suffers first career loss
FeatherweightUFC
November 16, 2019
Garagorri lost to Ricardo Ramos via submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 3:57 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
That will do it for Garagorri's perfect record. Fresh off a unanimous decision win over Humberto Bandenay in his company debut in August, Garagorri didn't even last four minutes on Saturday. He attempted a couple lazy, looping strikes which Ramos easily avoided before forcing Garagorri to the mat. He was never able to recover. Garagorri entered the UFC with little helium and the 30-year-old native of Uruguay isn't seen as much of a prospect despite his previously unbeaten record.
Will face Ricardo Ramos at UFC Sao Paulo
FeatherweightUFC
October 3, 2019
Garagorri will face Ricardo Ramos in a bantamweight bout at UFC Sao Paulo on Nov. 16, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Garagorri is coming off a defeat of Humberto Bandenay in a unanimous decision at UFC Montevideo in August. While the fight at UFC Montevideo was Garagorri's first action in the UFC, he'll carry a perfect 13-0-0 record as a professional fighter against Ramos, who is 4-1 in the UFC and coming off a defeat of Journey Newson at UFC Minneapolis. Garagorri carries height and reach advantages over Ramos, and he'll look to build on his UFC resume at UFC Sao Paulo.
