What a disaster. Entering as one of the biggest favorites on the card at about -300 and facing an opponent who hadn't won a fight in nearly six years, de Castro got clipped with a shot to the side of the hand and immediately crumbled. ANALYSIS
De Castro was content to give the center of the cage to Felipe early, and it took him a while to land his signature leg kicks. Felipe appeared to have the speed advantage, and was able to land to the body with some frequency, even working in a few of his own leg kicks. De Castro came out with more urgency in Round 2 and went back to the body kick, but Felipe pressed forward and landed his own body shots. Felipe landed with more frequency, but the volume of leg kicks from de Castro kept the significant striking totals within reach. Felipe's high volume approach seemed to take a toll, but so were his body shots on de Castro. Felipe again came out firing in Round 3, but de Castro took his best shots, barely missing on the return fire. The two fighters clinched on multiple occasions, but they were separated each time. This didn't stop de Castro from continuing to press forward and initiate more clinches (only to have the referee step in), but he had little else left in his arsenal at this point. This is the type of effort that would infuriate UFC President Dana White, as well as any bettors hoping for him to come through as a (-230) favorite. De Castro has now lost back-to-back fights and likely won't get favorable circumstances his next time out.
