December 15, 2022
Lungiambula was removed from the UFC roster on Thursday, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This isn't really surprising after Lungiambula saw his losing streak hit four last Saturday against Edmen Shahbazyan. Lungiambula will have to look for other opportunities to continue his MMA career in which he holds a 11-5 record.

Losing streak hits four
MiddleweightOther
December 10, 2022
Lungiambula lost to Edmen Shahbazyan via TKO (punches) at 4:41 of Round 2 at UFC 282 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Entering having lost three in a row and almost certainly in need of a victory to extend his time with the company, Lungiambula hung around for a round-plus before it all fell apart. Given Shahbazyan's struggles with wrestling in the past, Dalcha fired off four takedown attempts, failing on each. That was essentially the end of the fight right there. Lungiambula wilted late in Round 2, eventually being finished with just seconds left to go in the round. Now 35 years of age, it seems highly unlikely Lungiambula will be granted another opportunity with the UFC.
Hoping to snap losing streak

Lungiambula will take on Edmen Shahbazyan at UFC 282 on Dec. 10, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Both of these fighters will arrive in Vegas in December looking to snap three-fight losing skids. Lungiambula was last in the Octagon on July 16 when he was knocked out by Punahele Soriano.
Third straight loss
MiddleweightOther
July 16, 2022
Lungiambula lost to Punahele Soriano via KO (punches) at 0:28 of Round 2 at UFC on ABC 3 on Saturday on Long Island.
ANALYSIS
Things can turn in an instant in this sport, as Lungiambula found out here in a fight he was in full control of up until the stoppage. Dalcha is a massive middleweight and was able to use his big frame to power his way to a pair of takedowns in the opening round. Lungiambula attempted a high kick in the first few seconds of Round 2 which Soriano blocked before unloading a left hand which floored Dalcha and allowed his opponent to follow up and earn the stoppage win. Replays showed Lungiambula suffered a dislocated rib at the end of Round 1 and it's fair to wonder if he was physically impacted prior to the end of the bout. Regardless, it's a career-defining loss for Lungiambula, who has now dropped three straight and could potentially be looking at a release.
Targeted for July 16 fight
MiddleweightOther
May 4, 2022
Lungiambula is expected to take on Puna Soriano at the UFC event July 16, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lungiambula is coming off a March 12 loss to Cody Brundage. That brought his record with the UFC to 1-3. He will look to get things back on track against Soriano, who has dropped his last two fights.
Crucial error leads to defeat
MiddleweightOther
March 12, 2022
Lungiambula lost to Cody Brundage via submission (guillotine choke) at 3:41 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's tough to know what Lungiambula was thinking prior to the stoppage, but the bottom line is that he made a mistake that a fighter at this level simply cannot and it resulted in a potential career-altering defeat. With Brundage exhausted and Lungiambula pounding his opponent in tight, Dalcha went for a foolish double-leg takedown, leaving his neck exposed in the process and allowing Brundage to clamp on the rear-naked choke that ended the fight. Lungiambula is know for his work in the stand-up as opposed to on the mat, but no fighter in the UFC can make the type of error we saw from Dalcha here. The 34-year-old falls to 1-3 in the UFC with the defeat.
