Costa lost to Guido Cannetti via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:04 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's a second straight stoppage defeat for Costa as a substantial betting favorite. On the heels of being knocked out by Tony Kelley last December, Costa barely lasted a minute here despite being a -280 favorite, third-largest on the entire card. He was driven to the mat by Cannetti and found himself tapping out almost immediately. Now 2-4 in his first half dozen fights with the UFC, it's far from a guarantee Costa will get a seventh opportunity.
Faces Cannetti on October 1

June 17, 2022
Costa will fight Guido Cannetti in a bantamweight fight at a UFC event on October 1, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Costa stands 5-foot-9, three inches taller than Cannetti, while also sporting a five-inch reach advantage. Costa is currently riding a two fight losing streak dating back to 2020. Cannetti will likely try and get this fight to the ground, though Costa has a perfect 100% takedown defense. In his five UFC fights, Costa has yet to reach the final bell, with four of his five fights ending in a KO/TKO (2-2).
Knocked out as hefty favorite

December 11, 2021
Costa lost to Tony Kelley via TKO (strikes) at 4:15 of Round 2 at UFC 269 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Costa was never able to get on track in a fight in which he entered as a significant -200 favorite. The Massachusetts native relies on his stand-up skills in order to be successful, but Costa allowed Kelley to land nearly three times as many total strikes (50-17) in Round 1 before a barrage of elbows finished Costa off in Round 2. A member of the UFC roster since April 2019, Costa has now lost back-to-back fights via knockout and falls to 2-3 with the company, with all three defeats coming via stoppage.

Costa will face Tony Kelley (undisclosed) at UFC 269 on Dec. 11, Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Costa will attempt to bounce back in December after he lost to Adrian Yanez via TKO (punches) at UFC on ESPN 27 in late July, which brought his professional record to 6-2. Kelley withdrew from a fight against Trevin Jones in late July for an undisclosed reason but will apparently be ready to return against Costa. Kelley earned his first UFC win during his most recent appearance when he defeated Ali Al Qaisi via unanimous decision in October of 2020. Kelley has a slight edge in height.
Gets stopped after big first round

July 24, 2021
Costa lost to Andrian Yanez via TKO (punches) at 2:11 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 27 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's hard to imagine a fight turning quite so suddenly, but Costa looked to be in complete control with his jab in Round 1. We saw evidence of the dam breaking at the end of the frame, however, when Yanez began using his own jab and pouring on the pressure. Costa seems to have all the talent in the world, but his inexperience outside of the first round leaves him short on options if he doesn't get the early finish. He falls to 6-2 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
