Hangs tough in UFC 297 defeat
MiddleweightUFC
January 20, 2024
Barriault lost to Chris Curtis via split decision (27-30, 29-28, 27-30) at UFC 297 on Saturday in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Outside of the final few minutes, it was a fairly pedestrian, close fight. Barriault managed to match Curtis punch-for-punch, but Chris pulled away a bit in the latter stages of the bout. The expected power edge Marc-Andre was believed to possess never really materialized. That's the bad news. The good news is that Curtis was by far the best opponent Barriault has seen to date, and he more than held his own. Winless in his first four UFC bouts (0-3, 1NC), "Power Bar" is 5-3 in his past eight fights even with the setback here. His roster spot is plenty secure.

Barriault will fight Michel Pereira in a middleweight bout at UFC Vegas 81 on Oct. 14, according to Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com.
ANALYSIS
Barriault will try to improve his winning streak to three against Pereira, who is moving up to middleweight after missing weight for a welterweight fight he previously had scheduled against Stephen Thompson. By defeating Pereira, Barriault would improve his winning streak to three, which would be his best in the UFC so far.

Barriault defeated Eryk Anders via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 289 on Saturday in Vancouver.
ANALYSIS
It didn't come easy. The biggest moment of the fight was a Barriault knockdown just moments after the opening bell rang, but after ten minutes, Anders led in total strikes landed by a 62-61 count. To Barriault's credit, his cardio looked exceptional and he finally managed to create some runway between he and Anders in Round 3, ultimately earning the sweep on the scorecards. Now 33 years of age, Barriault is going to go as far as his power and durability will take him, but it's nice to see his secondary skills improving. Never one to turn down a fight, the Canadian has quietly won four of five dating back to April of last year as he attempts to climb the rankings at 185 pounds. He'll also walk away with an extra $50,000 here, as this matchup was given the nod for Fight of the Night.
