Finds opportunity in PFL

June 1, 2021
Abreu signed with the Professional Fighters League on Tuesday and is expected to make his promotional debut later this month in a heavyweight bout, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Abreu (15-4-0, 1 NC) most recently competed under the UFC banner, but he wasn't retained after going 1-2 with a no contest during his year-and-a-half-long run with the promotion. He fought in the 205-pound ranks for most of his time in the UFC, but he'll bulk up and join the heavyweight ranks in the PFL.

No-shows loss in Vegas
HeavyweightPFL
May 30, 2020
Abreu lost to Jamahal Hill via TKO (punches) at 1:51 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Abreu wasn't the least bit competitive in the brief kickboxing match. A submission specialist by trade, Abreu's movements on the feet are robotic and telegraphed, and he was hopelessly outgunned against a legitimate prospect in Hill. He ate countless monster strikes before the combination that ended the bout. The Brazilian entered the UFC with a six-fight winning streak but has fallen off a cliff since arriving. He is just 1-3 with the company and that lone victory was via unanimous decision against an aging Sam Alvey.

May 22, 2020
Abreu will face off against Jamahal Hill in a light heavyweight matchup on May 30, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hill and Abreu were expected to duke it out on a May 23 card when it was being targeted earlier in the month, but the date has been pushed back an additional week and could take place in Las Vegas if the Nevada Athletic Commission allows it. Abreu is 15-4 as a pro, getting 10 victories through submission, four by KO/TKO and one by decision. His most recent fight was a split decision loss at the hands of Shamil Gamzatov at UFC Fight Night 163 on Nov. 9. Hill is 7-0 as a pro, with three victories by way of KO/TKO and four by way of decision. He won his most recent fight Jan. 25 against the Darko Stosic via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 166. Abreu finds himself as approximately a (+110) betting underdog shortly after the announcement of this fight.

Abreu is set to square off against Jamahal Hill on the May 23 card, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Abreu was scheduled to square off against Gadzhimurad Anitgulov on June 23, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced numerous schedule changes and has resulted in Abreu finding a new opponent on a new date. He enters the bout looking to bounce back from a split-decision loss to Shamil Gamzatov in November.
Set to fight Antigulov
HeavyweightPFL
March 18, 2020
Abreu will fight Gadzhimurad Antigulov at UFC Kazakhstan on June 23, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In the scheduled fight at UFC Kazakhstan in June, Abreau will matchup up against Antigulov, who hasn't fought since April 2019 when he lost in 44 seconds to Michael Oleksijczuk. Abreu will be coming off a loss to Shamil Gamzatov in November 2019.
Drops split decision in Moscow
HeavyweightPFL
November 9, 2019
Abreu lost to Shamil Gamzatov via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Moscow, Russia.
ANALYSIS
It was one of the rare fights that was so close that it's too difficult to get worked up about the result either way. Abreu's biggest issue was that he was the less active of the two men. He attempted just 95 total strikes compared to 158 from Gamzatov. While he did land the only successful takedown of the bout, that simply wasn't enough in a fight that was primarily spent on the feet. Abreu was effective enough in Rounds 1 and 2 that he has a real claim for a 29-28 win, but going to the scorecards against a native Russian in his home country is a recipe for disaster and Abreu paid the price. The Brazilian has now alternated wins and losses in his first three UFC bouts.
