Drops first UFC bout
BantamweightUFC
February 15, 2020
Bontorin lost to Ray Borg via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 25-30) at UFC Rio Rancho on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
While Borg was the fighter who came in heavy, it was Bontorin that seemed to be controlling the position in the clinch early -- that is, up until Borg reversed position and got the takedown. Despite being on his back, Bontorin registered some offense of his own while attempting to secure the arm of Borg. Bontorin threatened with the escape, but Borg landed a big right when he was about to break free and rushed in to secure another takedown. The second round was more of the same, with Borg getting a takedown early and registering over four minutes of top control. Wash, rinse and repeat in the third round, as Bontorin had little answer to Borg's grappling game. Bontorin is now 2-1 under the UFC banner.

Survives quick and wild fight

Bontorin defeated Raulian Paiva via TKO (Cut) at 2:56 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night in Montevideo, Uruguay on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
This was shaping up to be a wild fight. By the time the fight was over, both combatants were cut and bleeding. Unfortunately for Paiva, his cut was much worse, and the referee had to end the bout. About halfway into the opening round, Bontorin went for a slam takedown. Once the fighters hit the floor, it was clear that Paiva had a facial injury that would stop the fight. Bontorin is now 2-0 in the UFC. In his debut for the promotion, he defeated the heavily favored Magomed Bibulatov and moved into the flyweight rankings.

Bontorin (thumb) will return to the Octagon at UFC Uruguay on Aug. 10 versus Raulian Paiva, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bontorin emerged victorious in his UFC debut Feb. 2 versus Magomed Bibulatov, but he also sustained a broken thumb that forced him into a six-month medical suspension. He owns a 15-1-0 career record overall, with the majority of his victories coming via submission. Paiva was taken down twice in his UFC debut against Kai Kara-France last February, but has been submitted just once -- back in 2015 via Anaconda choke -- in 20 professional fights.
Gets upset in UFC debut
BantamweightUFC
February 4, 2019
Bontorin defeated Magomed Bibulatov via split decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fortaleza on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
It was the first fight in the UFC for the product of Dana White's Contender Series Brazil, and though the margin of victory was narrow, Bontorin did not disappoint. Despite losing the battle of significant strikes 40-to-58, Bontorin was able to secure rounds 1 and 3 en route to the win. The decision really shook things up from a fantasy perspective, as Bontorin entered as the card's biggest betting underdog at (+235), agreeing to take the fight against an opponent that came in a pound overweight. Unfortunately, Bontorin did not emerge from this fight unscathed. According to Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com, Bontorin received a 180-day medical suspension from the Brazilian Athletic Commission (CABMMA), pending an x-ray of his right thumb.
