Second straight submission loss

December 18, 2021
Sayles lost to Jordan Leavitt via submission (triangle choke) at 2:05 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Sayles wasn't all that competitive in a fight in which he entered as a very slight +120 underdog. He survived a deep Anaconda choke from Leavitt in the opening frame before getting caught in a triangle choke in the early portion of Round 2. Sayles wasn't as fortunate this time around, as he was forced to tap out for the second time in as many bouts. A product of Dana White's Contender Series, Sayles had been on the sidelines for more than two years prior to this bout. The 27-year-old Alliance MMA product falls to 1-3 in the UFC and undoubtedly will need a victory his next time out in order to save his job.

September 19, 2021
Sayles will take on Jordan Leavitt at a UFC event scheduled for Dec. 18, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Sayles was initially slated to fight in May of 2020 but was removed from the card after the event changed locations amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He hasn't fought since December of 2019, when he lost to Bryce Mitchell via submission (Twister) at 4:20 of Round 1. Leavitt most recently lost to Claudio Puelles via unanimous decision at UFC Vegas 28 in June. Leavitt has advantages in both height and reach.

Sayles will no longer face Jared Gordon on the May 16 card following the move from San Diego to Jacksonville, Nolan Kings of MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sayles' booking against Gordon came before the COVID-19 concerns resulted in an indefinite suspension of operations. With much of the world still dealing with the situation, Sayles was expected to cede his spot on the card to Sean Woodson, but it wound up falling through during final negotiations.
Taking on Jared Gordon in San Diego

March 16, 2020
Sayles is scheduled to take on Jared Gordon (orbital) in a featherweight fight May 16 at UFC San Diego, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Sayles (8-3-0) has won in just one of his first three fights with the promotion since being awarded a UFC contract in June 2018 through Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. He most recently fought in December, losing via submission in the first round to Bryce Mitchell. Gordon (15-4-0) also returns to the Octagon on a downturn, having lost three of his past four fights.
Loses after missing weight

December 7, 2019
Sayles lost to Bryce Mitchell via submission (Twister) at 4:20 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Washington D.C.
ANALYSIS
It was a rough 36 hours at the office for Sayles. After missing weight by 2.5 pounds on Friday morning, he was forced to forfeit 20 percent of his purse to Mitchell in order for the fight to go on. If that wasn't bad enough, Sayles ended up tapping out in just over four minutes. On top of that, Sayles actually ended this fight as a -130 favorite. Sayles is young enough (26 years old in February) to straighten things out, but this was a clear setback. He has now alternated wins and losses in his first three official UFC bouts.
Fails to make weight
FeatherweightOther
December 6, 2019
Sayles weighed in at 148.5 pounds Friday morning at the weigh-ins for UFC on ESPN 7, which was 2.5 pounds over the maximum 146-pound weight, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As a result of Sayles' not being able to make weight, his fight with Bryce Mitchell will proceed at a catchweight and Sayles will have to forfeit 20 percent of his purse as a result. Mitchell has yet to lose as a professional and Sayles hopes he can give the 20-year-old his first tally in the loss column Saturday night.
