Awaiting new opponent
BantamweightUFC
January 23, 2020
Vera will need a new opponent after it was announced Thursday that Jimmie Rivera has withdrawn from the UFC 247 card due to injury, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vera's fight is one of the better ones on the card, so it would certainly benefit the UFC to find another option for him. While he won't get his shot at Rivera after being denied a chance at him a couple of years back, he will presumably have a decent replacement on the way.

Fight vs. Jimmie Rivera in works
BantamweightUFC
December 7, 2019
Vera may have a potential bout against Jimmie Rivera at UFC 247, Nolan King of MMAJunkie.usatoday.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vera is riding a lengthy winning streak, as he has won his previous five fights. Meanwhile, Rivera has lost three of his past four. The two fighters almost had a match thirty-two months ago, but Rivera ultimately declined by citing Vera's standing in the division. That has clearly since changed.
Win streak rolls on
BantamweightUFC
October 12, 2019
Vera defeated Andre Ewell via TKO (strikes) at 3:17 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Tampa.
ANALYSIS
Vera's winning ways continue. The Colombian has now picked up five victories in a row and has not tasted defeat in more than a year and a half. His full offensive arsenal was on display in this one. He nearly had Ewell defeated in Round 1 with a deep arm-triangle, and the stoppage came in Round 3 following a couple big kicks and some vicious shots from the top. The winning effort was enough to earn him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Vera rarely gets talked about when mentioning the best 135-pounders on the roster, but he deserves to be in the conversation given his recent strong work. He needs a better opponent his next time out.

Vera will face Andre Ewell in a UFC battle in Tampa, Florida on Oct. 12, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Though not yet formally announced, the 135-pound matchup will reportedly be set on ESPN+ 19 for Oct. 12. Vera will be looking to extend his streak of five wins when he fights Ewell in Florida. Vera is coming off a victory over Nohelin Hernandez via submission in Round 2 at UFC 239 on July 6.
Runs win streak to four straight
BantamweightUFC
July 6, 2019
Vera defeated Nohelin Hernandez via submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:25 of Round 2 at UFC 239 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Vera handled his late-notice opponent change without issue. Realizing Hernandez's biggest strength is his striking, Vera did all he could to turn this into an ugly ground battle. He secured his only takedown attempt, and emerged victorious following multiple scrambles between the two men on the mat. A win over a debuting Hernandez means little for Vera in the grand scheme of things, but the 26-year-old continues to go about his business at 135 pounds. Vera has now won four in a row.
Gets new opponent for UFC 239
BantamweightUFC
July 2, 2019
Vera (15-5-1) is slated to take on Nohelin Hernandez (10-2-0) in a bantamweight fight Saturday at UFC 239 in Las Vegas, Nolan King of MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vera was initially scheduled to face Sean O'Malley, who announced his removal from the event earlier this month after he tested positive for ostarine. After a two-week search, the UFC settled on Hernandez as a replacement, with the 25-year-old carrying a four-fight winning streak into his UFC debut. Vera has won his last three decisions, with his most recent victory coming over Frankie Saenz at UFC Nashville in March.
