Ostovich lost to Gina Mazany via TKO (liver kicks) at 4:10 of Round 3 at UFC on ESPN 18 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Ostovich was content to let Mazany lead the dance in Round 1. While Mazany piled up the volume, Ostovich did get off her fair share of counters. She was taken down as well and even briefly gave up her back, but initiated a scramble to get back to her feet. Ostovich was again taken down to begin Round 2, but showed exceptional flexibility to escape from a north-south choke and take the back of Mazany, getting in a few big shots before the two were back on the feet. Ostovich was taken down a few more times before the end of the round, and when she finally did escape, she ate a huge left hand before the bell. Ostovich took the same approach in Round 3 despite likely being behind on the scorecards, as Mazany landed more volume while Ostovich looked to counter. She again made her way out of several bad positions, but the damage was piling up. It was a pair of liver kicks that finally buckled Ostovich ultimately ended the proceedings. As Ostovich admitted during fight week, this could very well be the end of the road in the UFC.
