Montana De La Rosa

Improves to 4-1 with UFC
February 15, 2020
De la Rosa defeated Mara Romero Bella via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Rio Rancho on Saturday.
De la Rosa statistically lost the striking battle in the first round and was even taken down, but was able to pass guard twice and register more control time. The second round was more of the same and more clearly in favor of de la Rosa, due largely to the control time factor. She also had a narrow edge in significant and total strikes in that frame. De la Rosa carried that momentum into the third round when the two started to open up with striking, and even landed a knockdown with a stiff right hand around the midway point. De la Rosa maintained top position from there, which was enough to earn her the favor of the judges when it was all said and done. The win helps her bounce back from her lone UFC loss and improves her record with the company to 4-1.

De La Rosa will face Mara Romero Borella in a flyweight matchup at UFC Rio Rancho on Feb. 15, reports.

Romero Borella has alternated wins and losses in her first four fights with the UFC, most recently losing to Lauren Murphy via TKO (strikes) at UFC Newark in August to bring her professional record to 12-6. Romero Borella carries a slight height advantage, while De La Rosa has a slight edge in reach.
Unable to control opponent in loss
June 22, 2019
De La Rosa lost to Andrea Lee via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night 154 in Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday.
De La Rosa was able to have a modicum of success with her takedown game in all three rounds, but an inability to keep Lee on the ground led to a tired De La Rosa eating knees and jabs for most of the bout. The 24-year-old has improved as a counter striker and can still work her takedown game, but she will need to get better at control positions in order to use her best skill to consistently win fights. She falls to 10-5 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.

De La Rosa has been booked to take on Andrea Lee at UFC Greenville on June 22, Marc Raimondi of reports.
De La Rosa has gone a perfect 3-0 since joining the UFC promotion in 2017, and she most recently defeated Nadia Kassem via submission at UFC 234 back in February. Her fight against Lee presents will certainly present a contrast of styles, with De La Rosa winning via submission in each of her three UFC bouts while Lee has gone the distance in each of her two victories in the Octagon.
Owns the ground battle
February 9, 2019
De La Rosa defeated Nadia Kassem via submission (armbar) at 2:37 of Round 2 at UFC 234 on Saturday in Melbourne.
De La Rosa wanted this fight on the ground, and she closed the distance immediately and went for it. In the first round, she scored an early takedown and did some solid work from the top. Kassem was getting worn out, but she made it to the second round. In the next round, De La Rosa once against scored a quick takedown. This time she locked on a triangle choke. She could not finish it, so she went to for the arm. Kassem continued to fight, but she eventually got locked in and was forced to verbally tap. De La Rosa is now 3-0 in the UFC since she left "The Ultimate Fighter," and also took home a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for her efforts.
Finishes with a third-round submission at the TUF 27 Finale
July 6, 2018
De La Rosa defeated Rachael Ostovich via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:21 of Round 3 at the TUF 27 Finale on Friday in Las Vegas.
Through two rounds, De La Rosa used her height and reach advantage to control distance and land the occasional strike. However, in the third round, she really showed what should do on the ground. After Ostovich went for a submission, De La Rosa ended up on top and went to work. She landed some solid ground and pound. Then, she took the back and finished with the rear-naked choke. While this was an impressive performance, she will need to improve her takedown ability to show off this submission skill in the future.
