Booked for June 6 fight
BantamweightUFC
April 28, 2020
Garbrandt (11-4-0), who withdrew from a March 28 bantamweight fight at UFC Columbus with Raphael Assuncao (27-7-0) due to kidney issues, is now scheduled to face Assuncao on June 6 at a UFC Fight Night event at a yet-to-be-determined location, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Shortly after Garbrandt withdrew from UFC Columbus, the event was postponed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. in the month that has followed, Garbrandt has apparently made a full recovery from the medical issue, so he'll be ready to go in June to take on Assuncao in what could be the 28-year-old's final fight in the bantamweight division. Garbrandt said earlier in April that he plans on moving to the flyweight division following the bout with Assuncao.

Planning eventual move to flyweight
BantamweightUFC
April 5, 2020
Garbrandt (11-3-0) hopes to book a bantamweight fight with Raphael Assuncao before making a move to the flyweight division thereafter, USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
After an 11-0 start to his MMA career, Garbrandt has been trending downward the past two and a half years. In addition to losing all three of his fights since November 2017, Garbrandt hasn't been able to get back in the Octagon for more than 13 months while recovering from wrist surgery along with an unspecified illness. The latter issue forced him to withdraw from a fight with Assuncao at UFC Columbus in late March (the event was ultimately cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic), but the 28-year-old still intends to reschedule a matchup with the Brazilian at a later date. Once that commitment is completed, Garbrandt will turn his focus to dropping down to the 125-pound ranks, a division he believes he'll be more competitive in.

Agrees to fight Raphael Assuncao
BantamweightUFC
December 13, 2019
Garbrandt (wrist) has agreed to fight Raphael Assuncao on March 28 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Both sides have agreed to the 135-pound matchup. Garbrandt, holding an 11-3 record, looks to return from a wrist injury and end his skid of three straight losses against the seasoned veteran Assuncao, who is 27-7 all-time but has lost his last two bouts. In preparing for the fight, Garbrandt has spent time working on striking, seeking help from coach Mark Henry, who has spent time with the likes of Frankie Edgar and Zabit Magomedsharipov. When the fight arrives, Garbrandt will look to win in front of a home crowd, as he grew up in Ohio.
Will undergo surgery
BantamweightUFC
August 16, 2019
Garbrandt (undisclosed) suffered a torn tendon and is scheduled to undergo surgery, Mike Bohn of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Garbrandt, who hasn't competed in the octagon since March 2019, will reportedly be sidelined until sometime in the first quarter of 2020. The specific tendon is still unknown, but Garbrandt has dealt with injuries to his back, hand and wrist in the past. Garbrandt carries a career 11-3 record in MMA (6-3 UFC).
Poor fight IQ leads to third straight loss
BantamweightUFC
March 2, 2019
Garbrandt lost to Pedro Munhoz via KO (punches) at 4:52 of Round 1 at UFC 235 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Once again, Cody has no one to blame for this loss but himself. In what was a fairly even back and forth first round, Garbrandt suddenly tried to turn the bout into a slug fest and it resulted in his third loss in a row. Cody has a bunch of power to go along with extremely quick feet and hands, but his fight IQ is abysmal. He doesn't pick and choose his spots to attack and has shown zero signs of improving in that area of the past couple years. A former UFC Bantamweight Champion, the odds are strongly against Cody ever reaching the top of the mountain again. He all but gave away a much needed win on Saturday.
