Needs pec surgery, out eight months
Jones suffered a pectoral injury while training and withdrew Tuesday from his UFC heavyweight title fight with Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 in New York on Nov. 11, Shaheen Al-Shatti of The Athletic reports. He'll require surgery to address the injury and is expected to require eight months of recovery time.

Jones triumphantly returned from a three-year break to beat Ciryl Gane in a Round 1 submission back on March 4, so he clearly has a lot left in the tank. Facing Miocic will be no easy task, however, with Dana White describing him as the greatest heavyweight of all time.

Say what you want about Jones and his issues in his personal life and his actions outside the Octagon, but he's legitimately one of, if not the, greatest fighter of all time inside it. UFC President Dana White told talk radio host Jim Rome that Jones is "ready to go" and intends to either book him for a heavyweight fight against Francis Ngannou or Stipe Miocic (via Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com).

He's since vacated that belt and announced his intention to move to heavyweight, though some additional legal troubles seem to have sidetracked his return. Jones will turn 35 years of age July 19, so there's still plenty of window to make an impact in a division that often sees fighters continue, even successfully, into the twilight of their careers. For perspective, Ngannou is also 35 years old, while Miocic will turn 40 in August.
