Gets replacement in DC
November 4, 2019
Overeem will now take on Jair Rozenstruik in a heavyweight matchup Dec. 7 in Washington DC, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
Overeem was originally scheduled to face Walt Harris in the main event, but Harris was forced to withdraw last week in order to focus on the search for his missing stepdaughter. It was unclear if Overeem would be given a short-notice replacement, but after Rozenstruik made quick work of Andrei Arlovski at UFC 244, the door was open for a fast turnaround. Overeem is a long-time veteran of the sport with a mountain of additional experience, but it's hard to argue with the hot streak Rozenstruik is on. He's undefeated as a pro with three knockouts in the UFC, and even though the betting odds will presumably reflect Overeem's experience when released, this is a heavyweight matchup where one well-timed shot could end things in an instant.

Needs new opponent
November 1, 2019
Overeem's opponent for UFC Washington, Walt Harris, will no longer participate as he continues the search for his missing stepdaughter, Marc Raimondi of ESPN reports.
A new opponent for Overeem has not been announced, and even though this was slated to be the main event of the evening, it's possible Overeem will be pulled from the early-December card entirely. He remains 45-17 as a professional for the time being.
Agrees to new fight
August 13, 2019
Overeem has verbally agreed with Walt Harris to fight in the main event at UFC Washington DC in December, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
Overeem has defeated Aleksei Oleinik and Sergei Pavlovich in his last two fights, and is looking to work his way back into title contention. He will have a tough test against up-and-comer Harris who is riding plenty of momentum. The 39-year-old will look to add another mark to his already decorated career come fight night.
Goes with the knees in the main event of UFC Saint Petersburg
April 20, 2019
Overeem defeated Alexey Oleinik via TKO (knees and punches) at 4:45 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Saint Petersburg.
It looked like Oleinik was going to shoot his shot in this fight. He came out and pulled guard right off the bat. When that did not work, he switched to throwing bombs. Overeem appeared to catch a power shot and had some trouble. However, he was mostly waiting for his opportunities to unleash hard knees. Towards the end of the round, he broke out his knees and scored some major damage. Oleinik dropped to the ground and continued to eat shots. Going into the fight, it was basically understood that Oleinik would have trouble if he could not implement his grappling game and that is what ended up happening. Overeem has a few losses, but considering the depth of the heavyweight division he might himself in the title picture if he keeps winning.
Gets new opponent for April 20
April 3, 2019
Overeem (44-17-0, 1NC) is now scheduled to take on Aleksei Oleinik (57-11-1) in a heavyweight fight April 20 at UFC Saint Petersburg after Alexander Volkov (29-7-0) withdrew for undisclosed reasons.
Overeem ended a two-fight losing streak in his last appearance in the Octagon back in November, when he defeated Sergey Pavlovich in a first-round TKO in Beijing. The 38-year-old will take on one of the few fighters in the promotion older than him in the 41-year-old Oleinik, who notched a submission win over Mark Hunt in Moscow last September.
Booked for main event at UFC Russia
February 22, 2019
Overeem has been booked to fight Alexander Volkov at a UFC event in Russia on April 20, Jose Youngus of reports.
Unlike his counterpart, Overeem is a seasoned veteran in the UFC, boasting a 9-6 record since joining the promotion in 2011. He most recently defeated Sergey Pavlovich via TKO (punches) in Round 1 of their bout at UFC Fight Night 141 in Neijing back in November, which ended what was a two-fight losing streak for the Dutchman. He'll be looking for win number 10 against Volkov, who just suffered the first UFC defeat of his young career back in October.
