Kostenko was drafted 87th overall by the Canadiens at the 2021 NHL Draft on Saturday.

ANALYSIS
Kostenko had a nice season in his home country, playing well for Togliatti in both the Russian VHL and MHL. He has good puck skills and has a decent amount of size at 6-foot-1 and about 185 pounds. Kostenko has the look of a solid all-around defenseman who can contribute in all three zones. He's probably a better offensive than defensive player, but there are no real concerns regarding Kostenko's ability to handle his business in his own end. This was a nice "draft-and-stash" selection for the Canadiens, as Kostenko figures to spend the next few seasons developing with Spartak Moscow in the KHL.
