Olund was placed on unconditional waivers by Pittsburgh on Thursday in order to terminate his contract, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

ANALYSIS
Olund -- who was selected by the Penguins in the fifth round of the 2017 NHL Draft -- spent the 2019-20 campaign playing in Sweden for Brynas IF Gavle, for which he tallied four goals and 10 helpers in 49 outings. The Sweden native made the jump to North America in 2018-19 and played 61 games for the Baby Pens but was never able to earn a call-up to Pittsburgh. With his contract terminated, it may close the door on the 22-year-old's chances of breaking into the NHL.
