Samorukov played with AHL Bakersfield in 2019-20 but opted to play in his native Russia this year due to the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Edmonton's third-round selection in the 2017 draft will likely spend next season with Bakersfield again, though Samorukov will try to win a spot on the Oilers' roster in camp. Either way, his return to North America will help bolster an already deep pipeline of young defensemen in Oil country.
