Hawryluk was acquired by New Jersey from Ottawa on Friday in exchange for future considerations.
ANALYSIS
Hawryluk has three goals and eight points in 19 AHL games with Belleville this season. He hasn't played in the NHL in 2022-23, but he has participated in 98 career contests, contributing 12 goals and 27 points in that span. Hawryluk will not be eligible to play for New Jersey in the 2023 playoffs because this trade occurred after the deadline.

Considering signing with Canucks
CFree Agent
October 19, 2020
Hawryluk is looking to secure a contract with Vancouver, per TSN Radio Vancouver.
ANALYSIS
Hawryluk played in 26 games for the Panthers and Senators last season in which he recorded three goals, seven helpers and 65 shots. The young center is far from a lock for the 23-man roster with the Canucks and would, at best, take on a bottom-six role with the organization. With his minutes likely limited, Hawryluk figures to be a low-end fantasy option this year.

2017
Hawryluk showed promise with 10 points and 65 hits in 26 contests split between the Panthers and the Senators in 2019-20, but it wasn't enough for the Senators to give him a qualifying offer. The 24-year-old forward instead latched on with the Canucks on a two-way contract. A physical, bottom-six center, Hawryluk could challenge Jay Beagle for playing time in 2020-21. He can likely do everything Beagle does, but he's younger and comes at a cheaper price. A second-round pick from 2014, Hawryluk may not see consistent NHL action next year, but if he impresses in the minors, he could make a larger impact with the big club in the future.
The Panthers dipped into free agency to strengthen the bottom six, so Hawryluk will need to compete for a regular spot in the lineup. The 2014 second-rounder played 42 NHL games as a rookie last season, potting seven goals on 35 shots and adding five helpers. He also contributed 32 points in 31 AHL games, so Hawryluk has at least proven he can produce in the minors. Even if he carves out a permanent spot with the big club, there are just too many bodies ahead of Hawryluk on the depth chart to expect much production out of him.
Hawryluk is a highly touted prospect in the Panthers' system. He really elevated his game in the 2015-16 season with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL, netting 106 points (47 goals, 59 assists) in 58 regular-season games to count as a 41-point increase over the prior season. He would go on to add another 29 points over 21 playoff contests before settling in with AHL Springfield last year. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement of a top prospect, but when it comes to a player with no NHL experience, expectations should be tempered, especially considering he will start the year back in the minors.
