Taylor Fedun
Taylor Fedun
32-Year-Old DefensemanD
Dallas Stars
2019 Fantasy Outlook
Picked up from the Sabres last offseason, Fedun proved to be a useful depth piece on the Stars blue line, playing in a career-high 57 games and chipping in four goals and 11 points with a plus-2 rating. The 31-year-old is likely to see his role shrink as younger blueliners in the Dallas system, such as Julius Honka, push for ice time, but the veteran should be a steadying presence when he draws into the lineup. Can't crack lineup
DDallas Stars
March 7, 2020
Fedun has not appeared for the Stars since Jan. 11.
ANALYSIS
He picked up two assists in five games with AHL Texas during a conditioning stint, but that's all the game action Fedun has seen lately. He's clearly the eighth defenseman on the Stars' roster -- don't expect to see him in the lineup unless injuries strike on the blue line.

For the second straight season, Fedun split the season between the minor leagues and the Sabres, appearing in seven games for the big club as an injury fill-in and 45 games for AHL Rochester. Fedun can contribute at both ends of the ice and has some value on a team that doesn't have a lot of right-hand defensemen, but he lacks the ability to be a full-time NHL regular. Fedun is in the final year of his contract heading into 2018-19 and doesn't have a long-term future with the team beyond a depth role.
Thanks to a blue line ravaged by injuries, Fedun appeared in 27 games for the Sabres and notched seven assists. The minor league journeyman looked very good in limited action with the Sabres, but remains a depth defenseman at best. His ability to move the puck makes him an ideal short-term replacement for second unit power plays, but with the Sabres' logjam on defense will likely split the season between the AHL and NHL again.
Fedun is a young forward who has shown a lot of promise. He made his NHL debut during the 2013-14 season with the Oilers, scoring two goals in four games. He spent the rest of the season with the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL, where he collected ten goals and 28 assists through 65 games. Fedun will provide depth for the Sharks' AHL team, but he doesn't figure into their NHL plan in any prominent way, if at all. His fantasy relevance is limited.
Fedun started skating again earlier this year after a leg injury. Without that injury, he might've had a chance to make the team last camp as the Oilers needed every defender they can get. And they still do. This season, however, he is ticketed for the AHL as he will have to convince the team he is at full strength before given a shot at the NHL level.
