Yahoo DFS Hockey: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

GOALIE

Frederik Andersen, TOR vs. CAR ($20): Head coach Sheldon Keefe displayed his confidence in Andersen after the netminder was lit up by the Penguins on Tuesday, as he bounced back with a 24-save shutout in Thursday's rematch. It was a huge boost for the Maple Leafs, and he'll look to keep it rolling against a strong Hurricanes team which is on the second half of back-to-back games.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Elvis Merzlikins, CLS at NSH ($39): The outstanding run has ended, as Merzlikins has lost six straight games and allowed 11 goals over the last three outings. The price tag is much too inflated due to his earlier success, especially with the Predators ranking eighth over the last two weeks with 2.96 GF/60, per Natural Stat Trick.

CENTER

Gabriel Vilardi, LA vs. COL ($16): Vilardi was outstanding in his NHL debut, scoring on his first shot and adding a helper in the third period. Can he keep it up? Not to this extent, but he's an intriguing value, as he's centering the second line and toiling on the second power-play unit.

CENTER TO AVOID

Bo Horvat, VAN vs. BOS ($22): Horvat's struggling in February. He has just two points and a minus-6 rating over nine games, and the Bruins' crease has been stout during the month, allowing a league-best 0.59 G/60 at even strength.

WINGS

Andre Burakovsky, COL at LA ($19): With five points in as many games, Burakovsky continues to be productive on the top line. Flanking Nathan MacKinnon raises his ceiling even further, and he's an excellent option against the Kings, who have let up at least three goals in nine straight games.

Craig Smith, NSH vs. CLS ($17): Smith has showcased his goal-scoring upside lately with six goals in as many games, and his shot volume has been decent in that stretch. With Merzlikins' flame sputtering, Smith will look to capitalize at home.

WINGS TO AVOID

Taylor Hall, ARI vs. TB ($23): Hall fired four shots on net against the Blues on Thursday, but he didn't capitalize. In fact, nobody did, as Jordan Binnington posted a second straight shutout. He'll run into another red-hot goaltender in Andrei Vasilevskiy, who has a 2.14 GAA in February, so Hall's upside is lowered.

Evgenii Dadonov, FLA at VGK ($16): Dadonov's scoring has been a bit flaky lately, and he's finished with a negative plus-minus in five of the last seven games. His opportunities are decreased with a third-line deployment, and it'll be tough to get the engine roaring because Vegas has allowed just 2.12 G/60 in February.

DEFENSE

Shea Weber, MON at OTT ($19): Weber's quick injury recovery is frankly remarkable, and he hasn't missed a beat with a goal, seven shots on net and six blocked shots over two games. His power-play responsibilities put him in a solid position, too, as the Senators' penalty kill has posted a league-worst 16.95 GA/60 in February.

Charlie McAvoy, BOS at VAN ($17): McAvoy's offensive game has broken through lately with seven points and a plus-10 rating over the past eight games, and he continues to fire enough shots to maintain a floor. He mans the power play too, and the Canucks' PK has let up 8.09 GA/60 -- 21st in the league.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Jaccob Slavin, CAR at TOR ($19): Slavin has kept up his offensive work with Dougie Hamilton out of the lineup, but it's been a tough stretch with just two shots and three blocked shots over three games. With Andersen possibly starting a red-hot stretch, Slavin's ceiling takes a hit.

Quinn Hughes, VAN vs. BOS ($19): Hughes is neck-and-neck with Cale Makar for the Calder Trophy, but now is the proper time to fade the rookie. He has posted four of his last seven points with the man advantage, and the Bruins' PK ranks eighth at 4.55 GA/60 in February.
