Yahoo DFS Hockey: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

There are only two games on Wednesday, and both are divisional showdowns. The Canadiens will host the Senators in the Atlantic Division, and both teams will be on the latter half of back-to-back outings. Meanwhile, the Capitals will travel to the Big Apple to face off against the Rangers in a Metropolitan matchup. Read on for tips on setting your DFS lineup in this short slate.

GOALIE

Braden Holtby, WAS at NYR ($27): Holtby's the most-expensive option among the expected starters, but his price is a major bargain for the way he's playing. The 30-year-old netminder has a 10-0-1 record and .926 save percentage over his last 11 starts. He's won his last five matchups against the Blueshirts, too.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Keith Kinkaid, MON vs. OTT ($22): When you have to pick two of four possible options, sometimes the process of elimination is the best strategy. Kinkaid has been unable to rediscover his game with the Habs, as he's yielded at least four goals in all four starts this year and his last seven dating back to last season.

CENTER

Ryan Strome, NYR vs. WAS ($17): Strome's an intriguing hedge against starting Holtby, as he's registered six multi-point affairs over the last 11 contests, totaling 14 points overall. The 2011 first-rounder has locked down the top-line gig, and flankers Artemi Panarin and Kaapo Kakko help keep his production rolling.

CENTER TO AVOID

Max Domi, MON vs. OTT ($21): Domi was on track to match last year's 72-point output, only for the 24-year-old to taper off with just two assists over the past eight contests. The center finished with a negative fantasy value in two of those outings, so he's a bit overpriced for possible damage to your overall lineup.

WINGS

Alex Ovechkin, WAS at NYR ($35): The Rangers sport the 28th-ranked penalty, ringing up at 72.9 percent. Ovechkin's the priciest option out of all players tonight, but when his office is set up for production like this, it's tough to fade him. The veteran sniper has already lit the lamp 15 times -- seven with the man advantage -- over 23 outing

Anthony Duclair, OTT at MON ($15): It took until Jan. 5 for Duclair to notch his ninth goal last season, and he's already hit that mark through 21 games. The change from Columbus has proved wonders for the once-electric prospect. Duclair is poised to continue the momentum, as he's accumulated a career 0.86 PPG against the Habs.

WINGS TO AVOID

Chris Kreider, NYR vs. WAS ($18): Kreider's familiar with the Caps as a career Ranger, but he's averaged just 0.40 points per game against them in his career -- 0.20 less than against the rest of the league. The veteran's getting fewer chances this year, too, as he starts 44.3 percent of shifts in the offensive zone while producing an unimpressive 42.1 Corsi For percentage.

Connor Brown, OTT at MON ($14): Brown's gone pointless in seven of the last eight outings, and he doesn't offer much for a floor, as all of those contests finished below 3.9 fantasy points. It doesn't help that he's in a defensive role, starting 59.9 percent of his shifts in the Sens' zone.

DEFENSE

Shea Weber, MON vs. OTT ($23): Weber's shooting with intriguing volume, averaging nearly three shots on goal per game. The 34-year-old is producing at the best rate of his career, too, as he's on pace for 69 points over an 82-game season. The Senators will likely deploy Craig Anderson, who has a putrid .873 save percentage in November.

Thomas Chabot, OTT at MON ($17): Chabot led the Senators' blue line with 16 power-play points last season, and he's accounted for another three to start this season. The 22-year-old aims to capture last year's trajectory against the Habs, who have the second-worst penalty kill (71.9 percent) in the league.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Ben Chiarot, MON vs. OTT ($16): Chiarot's begins a majority of his shifts (52.3 percent) in the defensive zone, and that'll lower his chances of breaking a seven-game scoreless streak against the Canadiens.

Brady Skjei, NYR vs. WAS ($14): Skjei only has one point over the last eight outings, and his lack of production is backed up by a 46.9 Corsi For percentage. Considering he's averaged just 1.6 shots on net per game in November, his floor isn't appealing enough to chase, either.
