Not playing in Bermuda
October 26, 2021
MacKenzie withdrew from the Bermuda Championship field Tuesday, Rob Bolton of PGATour.com reports.
ANALYSIS
MacKenzie was added to the field after Bo Van Pelt withdrew Monday but won't wind up playing in the tournament. The pool of alternates has been used up, so the tournament will wind up slightly smaller than expected.

MacKenzie is a two time PGA Tour winner, but his best season came in 2013-14, with five top-10s. He hasn't been able to match that in the past two years combined, while battling injuries. He was 151st in points last season, and it's hard to envision a finish inside the top-125 this season.
Mackenzie started the 2013 on fire, but as hot as he was at the beginning of the season, he ended the season even colder. All of which makes it almost impossible to gauge his prospects for this season. Coming into the season he was a tough player to peg because he'd shown some flashes, but he's also shown a tendency to disappear for long stretches. His price is reasonable for the upcoming season, but he's just too unreliable right now. In draft leagues he could go as early as the 6th or as late as the 9th round.
MacKenzie had solid finishes at the right times on Web.com Tour last season. He is a good bunker player.
After a strong start to the 2007 season, Will MacKenzie's story became well known. He gave up golf for 10 years and became an avid outdoorsman. What is interesting to me is the part about giving up golf for ten years. You have to wonder if he's still getting better. Is he still developing? If so, his upside could be really high. It's probably worth taking a shot at him at this price. For those in a draft league, MacKenzie could be a solid late round sleeper. In mid-May 2008 MacKenzie had knee surgery (badly torn meniscus) which will take him out of action from eight to 10 weeks. He returned to action in late June.
Classic case of a young player who can't putt, somehow finding the stroke one week during the year and winning. That's exactly what MacKenzie did last year. Mackenzie trudged along in his rookie season with little hope of avoiding Q-School when something funny happened, he won the Reno-Tahoe Open. Can you say Garrett Willis? With MacKenzie's card wrapped up through 2008, don't expect the urgency to be there in 2007.
