Fredrik Jacobson

Jacobson has become a fairly reliable player, but unless he finds a win somewhere in the schedule, he has little chance of significantly improving his earnings number from last season. The way he's played over the past decade or so, he's almost guaranteed to finish within the top-70 on the money list, but he'll need to crack the top-30 to make a selection worth the price. He's only accomplished that once in the past eight years. In draft leagues he's likely a 6th round pick.

A tale of two season for Jacobson in 2013. He started out on fire with a streak of seven consecutive top-25s during a stretch that spanned the months of February, March and April. After that however, he began to miss cuts on a regular basis. Another troubling stat from last year is the number of events he played. He's failed to reach 20 events in the past two years. If that trend doesn't turn around this year, he'll have a tough time topping his numbers from 2013. With that said, he's an intriguing pick in salary cap leagues as he's only two years removed from a year which he earned over $2.4 million. In drafts he should go in the 50-60 range.

Jacobsen probably expected more out of himself last season after picking up his first win on the PGA TOUR, but it is what it is. Part of the problem for Jacobsen was the number of events he played last year - only 17 compared to 25 events in 2011. Perhaps the two-year exemption he received for his win allowed him to relax a little last year. Whatever the case, he's bound to play more this season, and that's all it should take to see a nice increase in earnings this year. Jacobsen is not a must-have in salary cap formats, but he's definitely a good option. In draft leagues, he should go in the seventh or eighth round.

Until his win last year at The Travelers Championship, Jacobson had a reputation as a grinder without much luck. A win can change a lot of things, one of which is perception. No longer is Jacobson a player to discount on Sunday. That's the good part; the bad part, however, is that Jacobson spent the better part of the last decade paying rent in the mid-$1 million district. His win last year catapulted him over $2 million for the first time in his career. Whenever you hear the phrase, "first time in his career," you need to proceed with caution. Jacobson enters 2012 with more confidence than ever, but a trip past $3 million is not likely

Jacobson seems to have what it takes to make it on the PGA TOUR, but after years of the same thing - no wins, only runner-up finishes - it's hard to imagine a significant improvement in earnings in the near future. The good news is Jacobson has plenty of value in rotisserie leagues, as he's a fantastic putter. He may not have shown that side of his game last year, but for the better part of the last five seasons, he's been among the best on the PGA TOUR with the flat stick.

Jacobson's PGA success can be completely attributed to his skills with the putter. His ball-striking stats are something out of a John Carpenter film, yet he still manages to compete on a weekly basis. However, Jacobson's ceiling is lower than others since his overall game is limited. Even if Jacobson continue to be lights-out with his putter, he won't see much improvement in his game until he can improve his greens-in-regulation stats.

In 2003, Jacobson earned nearly 100k per start. He became a trendy pick as someone who could breakthrough on the tour and be a force. Five years later he's yet to make a major statement, but he's showing some signs again. This year could be the year he takes a step up.

Jacobsen is a tough one to figure out. His stats are not pretty, but he somehow gets the job done. He spent most of 2006 and part of 2007 recovering from a wrist injury, so the best might still lie ahead. He came on strong at the end of the 2007 season which is a good sign because his play improved during the Fed Ex Cup, not after it. It looks like it might be coming together for Jacobsen in 2008. His wrist is 100 percent and he's got a little momentum from the previous season.

Jacobson came on the scene in 2003 when he earned top-10s at both the U.S. and British Opens. Since then, Jacobson has done just enough on the PGA Tour to retain his card from year to year. The upside with Jacobson is high, but will he ever live to his potential? It's not quite time to give up on Jacobson yet, and at this price he's worth the small risk in salary cap leagues.

It was a dissapointing 2004 for Jacobson. We expect him to do much better this year. Don't forget that he became a father in the middle of the year. That can very easily throw your game off a bit.

Finished 3rd in non-member earnings in 2003. His earnings were more than the 125th player on the money list which makes him exempt for 2004 season.
