The Cowboys released Olawale on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Olawale opted out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now more than a year removed from his last competitive action and set to turn 32 years old before the start of the 2021 season, Olawale could struggle to win a spot on a Week 1 roster.

Olawale heads to Dallas after six seasons in Oakland to handle fullback duties and fill a role on special teams. He's not likely to see more touches on offense as a Cowboy with Ezekiel Elliott dominating the action in the backfield, however.
In his first year as the Raiders' clear-cut No. 1 option at fullback, Olawale rushed for 47 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, while also adding a career-high 12 receptions for 227 yards and a score. The 28-year-old doesn't warrant much fantasy attention due to his lack of volume in the offense, not unexpected for a fullback in Oakland's system. After running back Latavius Murray left for Minnesota in free agency, Olawale was originally a candidate for an extra goal line carry or two, but the addition of Marshawn Lynch keeps Olawale essentially out of the picture in the short-yardage department. Expect one-to-two touches per game once again in 2017 for the 6-1, 238-pounder.
After three seasons in which he totaled just five rushing attempts, Olawale toted the rock 24 times for 110 yards and one touchdown in 2015. Those aren't fantasy-relevant numbers, per se, but Olawale graded out as top-10 fullback by Pro Football Focus and appears to have carried his momentum into 2016 where he enters the season as the team's starting fullback. However, Marcel Reece is eligible to return from suspension in Week 5, and Olawale will need to take his production to yet another level in order to overtake the starting job for good.
Olawale is the Raiders' second-string fullback behind teammate Marcel Reece, and he'll likely have a tough time making the Raiders 53-man roster. Recent reports have suggested that the Raiders' are going away from using a fullback in much of the offense which makes it highly unlikely that they'll keep two of them on the roster.
Primarily a special teams player, Olawale toted the ball three times last season for all of six yards. There's always a chance he could move into the starting fullback role, in the event of an injury to Marcell Reece, but even if that were to happen, it's unlikely Olawale would be entrusted with anything more than a couple carries per game.
Olawale will likely play primarily on special teams but will also serve as Marcel Reese's backup at fullback.
