Entering his seventh NFL season, Acho projects to start for the Bears at outside linebacker, where he'll try to improve upon a 45-tackle, three-sack 2017 season. Despite his solid campaign last year, he's never reached the level of play he showed in his first two years in the league, when he averaged 5.5 sacks and 40 tackles. Over the last five years, he's posted just six sacks, and unless he continues to improve upon last year's performance as a 29-year-old, he'll be a low-upside IDP.
Acho inked a one-year deal with the Bears in the offseason after accruing 31 tackles and one sack across 16 games with the Cardinals in 2014. He’ll find himself in a reserve role at outside linebacker to open training camp, but his prior experience playing in a 3-4 scheme with Arizona could eventually lead him to seeing a heavy load of snaps. The Bears are breaking in a number of converted 4-3 defensive ends (Jared Allen, Willie Young, Lamarr Houston) at linebacker, and it’s unclear if any of those players will be able to transition effectively enough to the new position in order to keep Acho off the field.
Currently listed as the Cardinals' starting right outside linebacker. He played all 16 games in his rookie season, and recorded 40 tackles (35 solo) to go along with seven sacks and four forced fumbles. He should benefit from a full offseason of work, and will look to improve on his numbers in year two.
Acho will compete for a position at outside linebacker.
