Amani Oruwariye

Amani Oruwariye

28-Year-Old CornerbackCB
Jacksonville Jaguars
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Oruwariye's 30.0 PFF grade last season emphasizes the extent of his struggles in a disappointing final campaign with Detroit. The Giants signed the four-year veteran in the offseason, though his deal includes little guaranteed money. Oruwariye has shown past NFL success and will have a chance to compete for a role in New York's defensive backfield, but it will likely take an impressive training camp for him to land a roster spot. Jacksonville signed Oruwariye to its practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
In a corresponding move, outside linebacker Derek Parish was cut from the Jaguars' practice squad. Jacksonville is dealing with multiple injuries in its defensive backfield, so it would not be too surprising to see Oruwariye elevated as soon as Thursday at New Orleans.

2021
It has been quite a rise for the 2019 fifth-round draft pick who has steadily grown into Detroit's No. 1 cornerback. Not only has Oruwariye regularly handled 100 percent of the available defensive snaps for two straight seasons, he racked up 11 pass breakups and six picks last year despite playing behind one of the least-productive defensive lines league-wide. With No. 2 overall pick Aidan Hutchinson added to the mix, the Lions' improved defensive front hopefully will wreak enough havoc for Oruwariye to take his game to another level statistically.
Detroit's 2019 fifth-round pick, Oruwariye entered the 2020 campaign in the shadow of 2021 No. 3 overall pick Jeff Okudah, not to mention free-agent prize Desmond Trufant. However, as both Okudah and Trufant struggled to stay healthy, Oruwariye quietly turned into an every-down player and ultimately logged 100 percent of the defensive snaps in 10 of 16 games. While his resulting stats weren't IDP worthy and he graded much better in zone coverage than man, he figures to continue to be a large part of Detroit's plans at cornerback, even if a new coaching staff gives Quinton Dunbar the starting job at cornerback opposite Okudah.
