Officially released by Jets
The Jets officially released Davis from the reserve/retired list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
This transaction comes on the heels of Davis applying for reinstatement from the NFL earlier Thursday. In the later stages of the 2023 preseason, he announced his retirement, but the now 29-year-old has put himself on a path to returning to the highest form of pro football. In two campaigns with the Jets between 2021 and 2022, Davis hauled in 66 of 123 targets for 1,028 yards and six touchdowns in 22 games.

Jets interested in reunion
The Jets are interested in signing Davis, but he may prefer a team closer to his home in Nashville, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Davis sat out the 2023 season but applied for reinstatement in 2024 and was subsequently released by the Jets. New York's decision to release Davis gives him the flexibility to sign anywhere he wants, but the receiver-needy Jets would likely welcome Davis back with open arms. If proximity to Nashville is Davis' top priority, the obvious top fit would be the Titans, with whom Davis spent his first four NFL seasons from 2017 to 2020 before playing for the Jets in 2021 and 2022.

Davis played only nine games in the first season of his three-year, $37.5 million contract with
the Jets, ultimately undergoing core muscle surgery in December. He had plenty of time to
recover this offseason, but now his volume/role looks somewhat uncertain alongside 2021
second-round pick Elijah Moore, 2022 first-rounder Garrett Wilson and slot receiver Braxton
Berrios. The pedigrees put Berrios as the odd man out, but he arguably played better than
Davis last year, and the slot man's new contract (two years, $12 million) is nothing to scoff at.
That said, Davis did have decent numbers (54.7 ypg, four TDs) in his limited action last year —
especially given the state of New York's passing game — and he's a former No. 5 overall pick who is 27. Moore and Wilson may be the upside plays, but that doesn't mean Davis will be
completely frozen out of QB Zach Wilson's radar.
