Weekly Rankings: Week 12 Value Meter

Weekly Rankings: Week 12 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

Sunday morning update complete

Last, Well-Earned Bye Week: Kansas City, LA Rams

Thanksgiving Week: Bears @ Lions, Redskins @ Cowboys, Falcons @ Saints

Here are my rankings (if you want a second opinion, please see our formula-based projections - these are not tied into my rankings at all) for the coming week at each position to help you decide your starting lineup. Our rankings are based on the following scoring system: four points for a passing touchdown; six points for a rushing/receiving touchdown; one point for every 20 passing yards; and one point for every 10 rushing/receiving yards. Most importantly, the default rankings are now for PPR leagues.

**** PLEASE READ: Times change, and with them, so do I, even if I go kicking and screaming into the good night. The vast majority of the fantasy football universe plays with some form of PPR -whether it's a full point or 1/2 point. ESPN's default is full-point PPR, Yahoo's is .5 PPR. The DFS games for the vast majority are either half or full point PPR. I'm sympathetic to those of you who would prefer standard rankings, so please, feel free to ask your questions in the comments regarding how a player might change in a standard scoring league. ****

***PLEASE READ, PART II - The masses (ok, the not-so-silent minority) have spoken, and you really want more representation for standard leagues too, so the Flex Rankings are now Standard scoring.***

Typically, this article will be posted on Tuesday evenings. ***

I will update these during the week, usually twice per week to account for injury or other news during practice. The timing of those updates will vary based on the news at hand and my schedule for the given week. But the first of those updates usually won't happen until Thursday. At any rate, I will post a "last updated" note at the top of the article, or an "update in progress" note if it's while I'm doing it. If there is no such note, that means it's my first pass at the rankings for this current week.

By all means, if you want to discuss a rank, or want me to add a player, chime in on the comments. I try to be receptive to your feedback and try to respond to most comments, though on occasion the volume can be quite thick. This first week in particular, but in other weeks as well, I will change ranks according to injuries and sometimes even a change of heart. Please refer to the rankings first when asking "should I start Player A vs. Player B?". And then refer to the rankings again before asking a generic starting decision question. If you really desire a response to a starting question that doesn't have added complexity, please use our Ask An Expert service - it comes with your subscription. Otherwise, my response will correspond with the rankings. If I rank one player before another, that's how I plan on making my starting decisions.

Quarterback

1.Drew Brees NO vs. Atl
2.Andrew Luck IND vs. Mia
3.Philip Rivers LAC vs. Ari
4.Matt Ryan ATL at NO
5.Aaron Rodgers GB at Min
6.*Cam Newton CAR vs. Sea
Note: (Ankle) Limited practice Wednesday.
7.Kirk Cousins MIN vs. GB
Note: Garbage-time production salvaged an otherwise pretty awful day for Cousins.
8.Dak Prescott DAL vs. Was
9.Ben Roethlisberger PIT at Den
10.*Tom Brady NE at NYJ
Note: Limited at Wednesday's practice with a sore knee, suffered in the Tennessee game when he caught a pass. ***Ankle injury is considered a minor one, despite being limited Thursday and missing Friday's practice. He's also battling an illness.****
11.Baker Mayfield CLE at Cin
12.Russell Wilson SEA at Car
13.*Jameis Winston TB vs. SF
Note: Named the starter again after replacing Fitzpatrick in last week's loss to the Giants.
14.Eli Manning NYG at Phi
Note: ***The Giants will give Kyle Lauletta a look sometime late this season, but not until after they are eliminated from playoff contention.***
15.Deshaun Watson HOU vs. Ten
16.Andy Dalton CIN vs. Cle
17.Carson Wentz PHI vs. NYG
Note: Just an utter disaster against the Saints - are they that good, or are the Eagles that bad?
18.Matthew Stafford DET vs. Chi
Note: Averaged a paltry 5.9 yards per attempt against the Panthers, but didn't turn the ball over at least.
19.*Marcus Mariota TEN at Hou
Note: Diagnosed with a stinger, rather than an elbow injury, as the reason for his departure from the loss to the Colts. The Titans play on Monday night, so he has an extra day to recover. Only threw in the individual portion of Wednesday's practice - considered day-to-day. ***Limited practice all week, but given the all-clear to start Monday night.***
20.*Lamar Jackson BAL vs. Oak
Note: Nothing official yet, but this ranking presumes that he is starting again. Flacco did not practice Wednesday. ***Will get a second start this week against Oakland.***
21.Nick Mullens SF at TB
22.Case Keenum DEN vs. Pit
23.*Colt McCoy WAS at Dal
Note: Starting in place of the injured Alex Smith. The Redskins signed Mark Sanchez to be his backup.
24.Derek Carr OAK at Bal
25.*Ryan Tannehill MIA at Ind
Note: (Shoulder) Confirmed as the Week 12 starter. Limited practice participant Wednesday, but that shouldn't alter his status as the starter this week. ***Completely removed from the injury list.***
26.*Blake Bortles JAC at Buf
Note: The Jags aren't considering benching Bortles after his latest lowlight game - 10-of-18 for 104, with six sacks and a lost fumble. That they are answering the question, again, speaks volumes.
27.*Chase Daniel CHI at Det
Note: Would get the start Thursday if Trubisky can't go. Should be the starter with Trubisky listed as doubtful.
28.*Josh McCown NYJ vs. NE
Note: ***Gets another start this week with Darnold ruled out.***
29.Josh Rosen ARZ at LAC
30.*Josh Allen BUF vs. Jax
Note: Put in a full practice Tuesday and is in line to start at his current trajectory, with Matt Barkley the most likely No. 2 option. Full practice Wednesday, but still not officially named the starter yet. ***Cleared to start.***
31.*Matt Barkley BUF vs. Jax
Note: ***Will be the backup this week.***
32.*Ryan Fitzpatrick TB vs. SF
Note: Benched again after throwing three INT's. Will he replace Winston again in Week 14 or Week 15? You decide.
33.*Blaine Gabbert TEN at Hou
Note: Relieved Mariota last week, could start this week, but it would take a pretty desperate situation to use him. ***Mariota will start.***
34.*Joe Flacco BAL vs. Oak
Note: (Hip) Did not practice Wednesday. ***Ruled out again this week.***
35.*Derek Anderson BUF vs. Jax
Note: Still remains in the concussion protocol, but was at practice Tuesday with a helmet on. Limited practice Wednesday. ***Not yet cleared from the concussion protocol, though it's unclear that he would even start if healthy now.***
36.*Mitchell Trubisky CHI at Det
Note: Missed practice Tuesday due to a shoulder injury but the Bears are 'cautiously optimistic' that he'll be able to play Thursday. Chase Daniel would get the nod if Trubisky can't go. Listed as doubtful. ***No lock to play in Week 13, though he and the Bears are optimistic.***
37.*Sam Darnold NYJ vs. NE
Note: (Foot) Status remains in doubt - he can jog without pain, and coach Todd Bowles called him 'day-to-day, week-to-week' - whatever that means. The practice reports will tell the story. In uniform Wednesday but listed as not-participating in Wednesday's practice. ***OUT this week and could miss Week 13 as well.***
38.*Alex Smith WAS at Dal
Note: Suffered compound, spiral fractures in his right leg and is obviously out for the season - his career might hang in the balance.

Running Backs

1.Alvin Kamara NO vs. Atl
2.Saquon Barkley NYG at Phi
3.Ezekiel Elliott DAL vs. Was
Note: Had eight targets last week and 20 over the last three weeks. There's no reason to discount him in PPR leagues any longer.
4.Nick Chubb CLE at Cin
5.James Conner PIT at Den
Note: Dropped what would have been the go-ahead touchdown late last week in the eventual win over the Jaguars.
6.David Johnson ARZ at LAC
7.Christian McCaffrey CAR vs. Sea
8.*Aaron Jones GB at Min
Note: I love that the Packers are starting to get Jones more involved in the passing game, too.
9.Matt Breida SF at TB
10.James White NE at NYJ
11.Marlon Mack IND vs. Mia
12.Leonard Fournette JAC at Buf
13.*Melvin Gordon LAC vs. Ari
Note: ***Popped up on the injury list with knee and hamstring issues on Thursday, had limited practices both days but expects to play. However ... this happened the week of the London game, and he was scratched after testing it out in pregame warmups, so be a little wary - or at least prepared if he can't go.***
14.Mark Ingram NO vs. Atl
15.Tevin Coleman ATL at NO
16.Joe Mixon CIN vs. Cle
17.Dalvin Cook MIN vs. GB
Note: The bright side to Sunday night's debacle? He made it through 59 snaps unscathed, and Murray did nothing as well.
18.Lamar Miller HOU vs. Ten
19.Phillip Lindsay DEN vs. Pit
20.*Gus Edwards BAL vs. Oak
Note: Took over the primary running back duties against the Bengals - still uncertain whether he'll maintain that role.
21.Josh Adams PHI vs. NYG
Note: Looked good but the Eagles fell so far behind that they had to completely abandon the run. ***Already first among equals in the Eagles' backfield, but they are planning on making him more of a feature back this week.***
22.*Adrian Peterson WAS at Dal
Note: (Shoulder) Full participation in Tuesday's practice - should be good to go on Thursday.
23.Chris Carson SEA at Car
24.Dion Lewis TEN at Hou
25.Duke Johnson CLE at Cin
26.Tarik Cohen CHI at Det
27.Peyton Barber TB vs. SF
28.LeSean McCoy BUF vs. Jax
29.Isaiah Crowell NYJ vs. NE
30.Jalen Richard OAK at Bal
31.*Austin Ekeler LAC vs. Ari
Note: (Neck) Limited at Wednesday's practice. ***Could get more than his usual workload with Melvin Gordon dealing with knee and hamstring issues.***
32.Frank Gore MIA at Ind
33.*Sony Michel NE at NYJ
Note: (Knee) Limited at Wednesday's practice. Prior to the bye week, Michel had 11 carries in his first game back, but was limited to 17 snaps. ***Limited practice all week, listed as questionable.***
34.*Theo Riddick DET vs. Chi
Note: Should get extra work in the passing game with both Kerryon Johnson and Marvin Jones hurting.
35.Jordan Howard CHI at Det
36.Nyheim Hines IND vs. Mia
37.LeGarrette Blount DET vs. Chi
38.*Kenyan Drake MIA at Ind
Note: (Shoulder) Had a non-contact jersey on at the Dolphins' first practice after the bye. Limited practice Wednesday, still had the no-contact jersey on. ***Limited practice all week, but cleared from the injury list.***
39.Derrick Henry TEN at Hou
40.Latavius Murray MIN vs. GB
41.*Doug Martin OAK at Bal
Note: Sat out the second half with an ankle injury, but it's not expected to be a long-term injury. Still, it's a good bet that his role will be diminished in the short-term. Limited at Wednesday's practice. ***Removed from the injury report - now it's just a question of how the Raiders apportion the workload between three backs.***
42.Royce Freeman DEN vs. Pit
43.Giovani Bernard CIN vs. Cle
44.Jacquizz Rodgers TB vs. SF
45.T.J. Yeldon JAC at Buf
46.Rashaad Penny SEA at Car
47.Alfred Blue HOU vs. Ten
Note: Took over for a couple of series for Miller and ran well, carrying eight times for 46 yards.
48.Carlos Hyde JAC at Buf
Note: More involved last week - had eight carries for 44 yards, and had another 12-yard run called back due to a holding penalty. Still, this is about the extent of his upside unless the Jags are way ahead in a game.
49.*Mike Davis SEA at Car
Note: (Knee) Limited at Wednesday's practice. ***Elevated to full participant in Thursday's practice.***
50.Elijah McGuire NYJ vs. NE
51.Ito Smith ATL at NO

56.Zach Zenner DET vs. Chi
57.Devontae Booker DEN vs. Pit
58.*DeAndre Washington OAK at Bal

70.*Cameron Artis-Payne CAR vs. Sea
71.*Alfred Morris SF at TB
Note: ***INACTIVE***
72.*Alex Collins BAL vs. Oak
Note: Only one carry in the second half against the Bengals. Great matchup against the Raiders this week, but not if Gus Edwards takes over again. ***Listed as questionable with a foot injury but expected to suit up. NOPE, INACTIVE!***
73.*Chris Thompson WAS at Dal
Note: (Ribs) Didn't practice Tuesday and is a long shot to play Thursday.
74.*D'Onta Foreman HOU vs. Ten
Note: ***(Achilles) Still working his way back from the PUP list, but won't be activated this week.***
75.*Kerryon Johnson DET vs. Chi

Note: (Ankle) Full practice Wednesday.
44.*Gus Edwards BAL vs. Oak
Note: Took over the primary running back duties against the Bengals - still uncertain whether he'll maintain that role.
45.Josh Adams PHI vs. NYG
Note: Looked good but the Eagles fell so far behind that they had to completely abandon the run. ***Already first among equals in the Eagles' backfield, but they are planning on making him more of a feature back this week.***
46.*Adrian Peterson WAS at Dal
Note: (Shoulder) Full participation in Tuesday's practice - should be good to go on Thursday.
47.Chris Carson SEA at Car
48.Amari Cooper DAL vs. Was

50.Sterling Shepard NYG at Phi
51.Golden Tate PHI vs. NYG
Note: Targeted eight times in the loss to the Saints.

55.Isaiah Crowell NYJ vs. NE
56.Jared Cook OAK at Bal

75.LeGarrette Blount DET vs. Chi
76.Jordan Reed WAS at Dal

Note: (Neck) Limited at Wednesday's practice. ***Could get more than his usual workload with Melvin Gordon dealing with knee and hamstring issues.***

79.*Jack Doyle IND vs. Mia

94.*Doug Martin OAK at Bal
Note: Sat out the second half with an ankle injury, but it's not expected to be a long-term injury. Still, it's a good bet that his role will be diminished in the short-term. Limited at Wednesday's practice. ***Removed from the injury report - now it's just a question of how the Raiders apportion the workload between three backs.***
95.*Dontrelle Inman IND vs. Mia
Note: Caught a late touchdown last week.

7.Adam Vinatieri IND vs. Mia
8.Chris Boswell PIT at Den

12.Brandon McManus DEN vs. Pit
13.Aldrick Rosas NYG at Phi

9.Indianapolis Colts vs. Mia
Note: The Colts' defense hasn't gotten the same level of acclaim as Andrew Luck and the offense, but they're so much better than last year.
