Australia vs. Sri Lanka: Third T20I Match Preview

Australia vs. Sri Lanka: Third T20I Match Preview

Match Details:

Series: Australia vs. Sri Lanka

Venue: Melbourne Cricket Ground,Melbourne

Date: November 1, 2019

Time: 1:40 p.m. IST

Match Preview:

Sri Lanka will face Australia in the third and final T20I, and will be hopeful of turning around what has been a dismal series for them. After a successful tour of Pakistan earlier this month, where they defeated the number one ranked side 3-0, they have been unable to get their act together against Australia, and have already lost the series. Both the games have been one-sided, with the Kangaroos dominating the Asian side.

The upcoming game is a dead rubber, which might mean that Australia give a few chances to their reserve players, while the Lankans will be hoping to restore some pride by winning the clash.

Weather Conditions: Temperatures will be in the mid-thirties on match day, but the evening should get cooler. There is no chance of rain as well, which means that we should be in for a full 40-over game. Conditions will be cloudy, so pacers can have a say in the proceedings.

Pitch Conditions: It has been a year since the last T20I was played at Melbourne, when Australia took on India in a game. However, the match was abandoned due to rain. The pitch at the MCG is tricky at times for the batters, with an average first innings score of only 139. Teams prefer to bat first after winning the toss here.

Sri Lanka:

Sri Lanka:

Sri Lanka made three changes to their playing XI in the second T20I, but that was not able to turn their fortunes. They are likely to make a few changes for the third game as well, as they aim to end on a high.

Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Pradeep, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Kusal Perera, Danushka Gunathilaka, Dasun Shanaka, Kusal Mendis, Isuru Udana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Niroshan Dickwella, Lakshan Sandakan

Australia:

Australia's Glenn Maxwell has withdrawn from the third T20I due to mental health issues, with D'Arcy Short being named as his replacement. The batter is expected to feature in the XI tomorrow.

Aaron Finch, David Warner, Kane Richardson, D'Arcy Short, Billy Stanlake, Pat Cummins, Ashton Turner, Steven Smith, Adam Zampa, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey

Top picks:

Wicket-keeper: Kusal Perera (9.5 credits)

The Sri Lankan is one of the most dangerous players in the squad with a batting average of 27.17 in the format along with a strike rate of over 135. He has gotten starts in the first two games, but has been unable to carry on, and will be aiming to give his team a solid platform in the encounter.

Batsman: David Warner (10.5 credits)

The Aussie is one of the most dangerous players in the world, and he showed why in the first T20I as he smashed his maiden hundred in the format. He followed up his knock with an unbeaten 60 in the second game, which is evidence of the kind of form he is in. Warner is one of the most threatening players currently, as we saw in this year's IPL, and he remains a must-pick.

All-rounder: Ashton Agar (8 credits)

Ashton Agar has had a decent run in the ongoing series, picking up 1 for 13 in the first game and following it up with figures of 2 for 27 in the second clash against Sri Lanka. His ability to keep things tight with the ball, which in turn creates pressure on the rivals, makes him a real threat, and with conditions likely to help the spinners at some point in the game, Agar can be a crucial player.

Bowler: Lasith Malinga (9 credits)

The experienced campaigner has not had the best of tours, picking up just 1 wicket in two games. However, Malinga often has the habit of striking when his back is against the wall, which is why he remains a top pick for the upcoming game. The conditions will help his style of bowling, and if he can get his 'A' game on to the field, he can be tough to play against.

Captain: David Warner, Lasith Malinga
