Three different quarterbacks saw significant action under center for the Bulldogs in 2021. None of them are back for 2022. Now, it seems like Downing is going to be the guy. He is new to the team, having transferred in from TCU. Why does he have the front-runner position? Because Louisiana Tech's new head coach Sonny Cumbie was the offensive coordinator at TCU when Downing joined the team. The two know one another, and Downing probably felt comfortable with his chances if he joined Cumbie. Hey, the gig is wide open. Downing will almost definitely get the first shot, but he's attempted all of 44 passes in college. There is a lot to learn about what he can do as a quarterback, so buying in until we see some proof on the field feels presumptuous.
