Samuel announced Sunday via his personal Twitter account that he is transferring to FCS Jacksonville State.
ANALYSIS
Samuel led Western Kentucky in rushing in 2018, but he played second fiddle to Gaej Walker last season. With Walker back in the fold for 2020, Samuel will drop down to the FCS ranks -- where he'll be able to compete immediately -- continue his collegiate career. A rising redshirt junior, Samuel could look to move back to the FBS in his final season of eligibility in 2021 if he performs well at Jacksonville State during the upcoming campaign.

Samuel was the clear lead back for the Hilltoppers as a freshman in 2018. He had 120 carries, almost double what the next running back had, for 641 yards. Samuel only had one touchdown, but De'Andre Ferby, who had six on 62 carries, is gone. If a couple of those touchdowns transfer over to Samuel, and if he gets a bigger role as a sophomore, he could really see his numbers job. Of course, this required new head coach Tyson Helton to like and trust Samuel as much as his predecessor Mike Sanford had.
