Zach Collaros
QuarterbackQB
Inks two-year extension
QBWinnipeg
January 28, 2020
Collaros signed a two-year contract extension with the Blue Bombers on Monday, TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
The Blue Bombers' decision to extend Collaros doesn't come as much of a surprise after general manager Kyle Walters acknowledged that retaining the 31-year-old was a greater priority than re-signing fellow quarterback Matt Nichols, who is now expected to hit the open market next month. After being acquired from Toronto in October, Collaros stepped into the starting role while Nichols -- previously the Blue Bombers' top option -- was sidelined after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery and replacement Chris Streveler tended to a broken foot. Collaros proceeded to go 4-0 during his run as a starter and led the Blue Bombers to their first Grey Cup win in 29 years after completing 45 of 69 attempts for 630 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the postseason. Collaros will remain atop the depth chart heading into 2020, with Sean McGuire likely in line for the No. 2 role while Streveler pursues NFL opportunities.
