2020 Tournament PreviewBYU is a metric darling, ninth in the NET rankings and 13th on KenPom, which is why despite losing in the WCC semifinals to Saint Mary's, the Cougars earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. BYU is led by NBA-bound Yoeli Childs (22.2 ppg, 9.0 rpg), a 6-8 senior forward who was ineligible the first nine games and then missed four games with a finger injury. The Cougars were 8-5 without him the but went 11-1 down the stretch after his return. BYU is more than Childs, however. The Cougars lead the nation in three-point shooting, knocking down 41.9 percent. Sophomore Alex Barcello (9.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg) shoots 48.6 percent from long range, while 6-5 Jake Toolson (15.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.9 apg) hits 47.0 percent. A 6-6 sophomore, Connor Harding (6.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg) makes 44.2 percent, and senior point guard TJ Haws (14.0 ppg, 5.8 apg) shoots 37.1 percent. BYU isn't quite as stout on defense (60th in defensive efficiency), but it still could sneak up on teams. Wins over Gonzaga, Houston, Saint Mary's, UCLA and Nevada prove that.
