$Signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Hornets in July of 2023.
Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Born in New Orleans, raised in Chicago, and attending UCLA after a stellar career at Sierra Canyon in Los Angeles, Amari Bailey has blue-chip prospect status. The winner of California's Mr. Basketball in 2021, a McDonald's All-American in 2022, and a Pac-12 All-Freshman Team nod for 2022-23 all solidify his reputation. Bailey's combo-guard skills settled in nicely alongside fellow NBA prospects Jaime Jaquez and Tyger Campbell. Bailey averaged 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.7 steals across three NCAA tournament games. Overall, he connected on 49.5 percent of 9.1 shots per game this season. UCLA boasted a fantastic team, with Jaylen Clark and Adem Bona also representing quality NBA prospects. It was the perfect environment for Bailey to look good. That said, he still flashed a versatile offensive game. Bailey's comfort in the midrange, above-the-rim athleticism, and solid spot-up shooting is an excellent combination. UCLA's team context disguised him defensively, but he doesn't project as a total liability. Bailey could settle into the league as a third guard within his first few seasons. His self-creation abilities and size are significant strengths. He declared for the 2023 draft when he could have been a potential lottery pick in 2024. Could he have a late first-round draft promise?
Plays entire fourth quarter
GCharlotte Hornets
April 13, 2024
Bailey (illness) logged five points (1-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-3 FT) and two rebounds across 12 minutes Friday in the Hornets' 131-98 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS Bailey had missed four straight games with an illness before being cleared to return to action for Wednesday's game against the Hawks, but he didn't enter the rotation while the Hornets eked out a 115-114 win. With Friday's contest proving to be much less competitive, Bailey got the chance to make his return to action, as he played the entire fourth quarter of the blowout. The rookie could stick in the rotation again in Sunday's game in Cleveland if the Hornets opt to rest or limit Vasilije Micic and Tre Mann.

GCharlotte Hornets
July 19, 2023
Bailey averaged 9.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 0.9 steals per game across seven total Summer League appearances. He shot 44.6 percent from the field, including 37.5 percent from deep.
ANALYSIS Bailey received playing time throughout the primary Summer League in Las Vegas, but also at a smaller scale at Summer League in Sacramento. The 20-year-old being moderately efficient despite Charlotte having questionable spacing and no true floor general organizing the offense is encouraging. His lack of facilitating is a concern but defendable due to the lack of shot-making around him. Bailey will be on a two-way contract with Charlotte for the upcoming season.
