Prior to the All-Star break, Huerter appeared in 45 games for the Hawks, averaging 30.4 minutes per contest. He posted averages of 12.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists, while adding 0.8 steals and 0.5 blocks on the defensive end. The Maryland product entered the break shooting 41.8 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from beyond the arc on 5.8 attempts per game. In a win over the Pacers on Jan. 4, Huerter poured in a season-high 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. Two nights later, Huerter hit a season-high six threes against the Nuggets. He matched that total in a matchup against the Mavericks on Feb. 1. Huerter entered the All-Star break with eight consecutive double-figure scoring efforts, including three games with at least 20 points. After the break, Huerter appeared in all 11 of Atlanta's games leading up to the suspension of play on Mar. 11. He scored in double-figures in eight of those contests, including a 19-point, eight-assist, four-rebound, three-steal effort in a Feb. 29 game against Portland. Huerter hit three three-pointers in four straight games from Feb. 26 to Mar. 2. After the Hawks selected Huerter with the 19th overall selection in the 2018 NBA Draft, the former Maryland Terrapin ended up starting 59 games as a rookie. The 6-foot-7 shooting guard appeared in 75 games overall for the Hawks. He averaged 9.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists. Huerter finished 10th among rookies in points per game and sixth in assists per game. The sharpshooter connected on 38.5 percent of his 3-pointers, finishing fourth among rookies who appeared in at least 60 contests. Huerter scored a career-high 29 points in a win at Philadelphia on Jan. 11, connecting on five three-pointers in the process. He hit at least three shots from downtown on 20 separate occasions. Huerter flashed more than just a deadly stroke from the outside, though, as he grabbed 10 rebounds twice, posted three outings with seven assists, and also had three games with three steals on his resume. Still, shooting remained his calling card, as Huerter hit 73.2 percent of his free throws as a rookie. Huerter was named to the NBA's All-Rookie Second Team.
