2019 Fantasy Outlook
Huerter put together a solid rookie season with Atlanta last year, earning far more playing time than anticipated when he was selected 19th overall. Projected as a role player, he started 59 of 75 games played and logged significant minutes (27.3 per game). In his first year, the Maryland product finished with 9.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. He also drained 1.8 threes at a 38.5 percent clip, living up to his pre-draft expectations as a sharpshooter. He'll start the 2019-20 season as the likely starter at shooting guard, where he could push for increased minutes and take a step forward in his overall play. Huerter seems like a good bet for another year of consistent production in threes, but he can be an even more valuable fantasy contributor if he can improve on his rebounding, assist numbers and defense. College/International Summary

While Huerter was at Maryland for two seasons, coach Mark Turgeon did not have to figure out who to start at one of the wing spots. The 6-7 guard started all 65 games in which he appeared for the Terrapins. In 2016-17, he started next to fellow freshman Justin Jackson and provided 9.3 points and 4.9 rebounds, while hitting 37.1 percent of his 3-pointers. Huerter scored 19 points in both of his postseason games as a freshman (losses to Northwestern in the Big 10 Tournament and Xavier in the first round of the NCAA Tournament). The guard increased his volume as a sophomore and pushed his averages to 14.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game, while making 41.7 percent of his long-range shots. He hit seven 3-pointers in a November loss at Syracuse. Huerter scored at least 11 points in his last 25 games before declaring for the 2018 NBA Draft, where he was chosen by the Atlanta Hawks with the 19th overall pick.

2019

Prior to the All-Star break, Huerter appeared in 45 games for the Hawks, averaging 30.4 minutes per contest. He posted averages of 12.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists, while adding 0.8 steals and 0.5 blocks on the defensive end. The Maryland product entered the break shooting 41.8 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from beyond the arc on 5.8 attempts per game. In a win over the Pacers on Jan. 4, Huerter poured in a season-high 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. Two nights later, Huerter hit a season-high six threes against the Nuggets. He matched that total in a matchup against the Mavericks on Feb. 1. Huerter entered the All-Star break with eight consecutive double-figure scoring efforts, including three games with at least 20 points. After the break, Huerter appeared in all 11 of Atlanta's games leading up to the suspension of play on Mar. 11. He scored in double-figures in eight of those contests, including a 19-point, eight-assist, four-rebound, three-steal effort in a Feb. 29 game against Portland. Huerter hit three three-pointers in four straight games from Feb. 26 to Mar. 2. He posted his second double-double of the season against the Wizards on Mar. 6, finishing with 14 points and a season-high 10 assists.

2018

After the Hawks selected Huerter with the 19th overall selection in the 2018 NBA Draft, the former Maryland Terrapin ended up starting 59 games as a rookie. The 6-foot-7 shooting guard appeared in 75 games overall for the Hawks. He averaged 9.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists. Huerter finished 10th among rookies in points per game and sixth in assists per game. The sharpshooter connected on 38.5 percent of his 3-pointers, finishing fourth among rookies who appeared in at least 60 contests. Huerter scored a career-high 29 points in a win at Philadelphia on Jan. 11, connecting on five three-pointers in the process. He hit at least three shots from downtown on 20 separate occasions. Huerter flashed more than just a deadly stroke from the outside, though, as he grabbed 10 rebounds twice, posted three outings with seven assists, and also had three games with three steals on his resume. Still, shooting remained his calling card, as Huerter hit 73.2 percent of his free throws as a rookie. Huerter was named to the NBA's All-Rookie Second Team.

2018 Fantasy Outlook
Huerter spent just two seasons at Maryland, using a strong sophomore campaign and an impressive showing at the NBA Combine to vault him into a first-round pick. He profiles first and foremost as a deep-ball threat. Huerter canned 2.3 three-pointers per game at a 41.7 percent clip, helping him finish with a final average of 14.7 points. The 6-foot-7 wing also added 5.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists, while knocking down 50.3 percent of his field goal attempts despite nearly half of those attempts coming from beyond the arc. After being selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Huerter should slot in as a key reserve on the wing in Atlanta. However, Kent Bazemore is locked into the starting shooting guard spot and offseason addition Jeremy Lin has the ability to play off the ball, which will likely hurt Huerter's chances of logging big minutes as a rookie. It wouldn't be surprising to see his role increase as the season progresses and the Hawks are eliminated from the playoffs, but either way, Huerter is still likely only worth a look in dynasty leagues.
