Edmond Sumner bounced between Indiana and Fort Wayne of the G League as he looked to establish himself as a rotation piece during the 2018-2019 season. The 23-year-old appeared in 23 games with the Pacers, starting two of them. He scored 2.9 points per game across 9.1 minutes of playing time per contest. The Xavier product showed a good nose for the ball, averaging 4.1 rebounds per 36 minutes as a 6-foot-5 guard. He also recorded 2.1 steals per 36 minutes. On Feb. 5, he had 17 points, two rebounds, two steals and a block across just 17 minutes in a win over the Lakers on Feb. 5. Sumner's high-scoring mark of the year was 22 points, which he posted during a season-high 29 minutes in a win over Atlanta on Apr. 10. With Fort Wayne, Sumner got more regular playing time and excelled. Sumner averaged 22.1 points, 4.1 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 made three-pointers per game across 26 games. Edmond Sumner was drafted in the second round with the 52nd overall pick by the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2017 NBA Draft. He was then quickly dealt to the Indiana Pacers for cash considerations. The Pacers eventually signed Sumner to a two-way contract. Knee issues delayed Sumner's G-League debut with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants until late January. On Jan. 19, Sumner received 12 minutes of run and scored nine points during his first game for the Mad Ants. Sumner played in 14 games for Fort Wayne, with seven starts. He averaged 7.2 points, 2.4 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals per G League contest. He scored a career-high 17 points twice with the Mad Ants, including a 17-point, six-rebound, three-steal effort during a Mar. 9 win over the 87ers. Sumner made his NBA debut during the last day of the Pacers' regular season. On Apr. 10, Sumner received just over two minutes of floor time and scored two points during a loss to Charlotte. Sumner was not part of Indiana's playoff roster.
