Kirk McCarty

McCarty came up through the Guardians' system as a starter, but most of his major-league action in 2022 came as a reliever. He worked 37.2 innings over 13 appearances (two starts), recording a 4.54 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. At the Triple-A level, he posted a 3.58 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 55:23 K:BB across 65.1 innings, making nine of his 18 appearances as a starter. The southpaw's 92.5 mph fastball is nothing special, and his 6.2 K/9 won't cut it in the rotation. The Guardians have a number of candidates to choose from if they want to carry one or two swingmen to begin 2023, and McCarty's among them, though he was designated for assignment in November of 2022 to clear space on the 40-man roster. That makes it a tougher path for him to get the majors, and it's unlikely he'll perform well enough to warrant a roster spot in most fantasy formats unless he makes a massive improvement and earns a spot in the rotation.
