Rest-of-Season Projections
The Red Sox have selected Rei with the 81st overall pick in the 2015 first-year player draft.
ANALYSIS
Rei becomes the fifth catcher off the board, following Tyler Stephenson, Taylor Ward, Chris Betts and Lucas Herbert. It's a thin class for backstops, but Rei flashed strong receiving skills at the University of Washington as well as an ability to control the run game with a very strong arm. Offensively, there's little to get excited about with Rei, as his hitting and power from the right side both grade out as below-average.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Rei was a 2015 third-round pick out of the University of Washington with a reputation as a good defensive backstop. His draft stock may have dropped due to a thumb injury and that may have played a role in his performance at Short Season Lowell in 2015. He had difficulty catching pitches and never showed much offensively. He recovered from a 2-for-30 stretch to start his pro career, but still only hit .179. The Red Sox were probably hoping to move up to High-A Salem in 2016, but look for Rei to open the year at Low-A Greenville.
