2016 Fantasy Outlook
An 11th-round pick in the 2015 draft, Byler made a quick impact in rookie ball last year. The 22-year-old from the University of Nevada posted a 1.058 OPS for rookie-level Missoula. He slugged 15 home runs and knocked in 57 runs in just 66 games (289 plate appearances). It’s somewhat easy to dismiss those numbers given his advanced age for the level, but it will be interesting to see if he can also hit the ground running with a full-season affiliate. While Byler played exclusively at first base or designated hitter, he is too far away from the majors to fret about not having a place to play at the highest level. Power like Byler’s is worth monitoring as he advances to see how it plays at more age-appropriate levels in the coming years.
