Barreto was traded to the Angels in the middle of the 2020 season, putting him in his third professional organization despite fewer than 250 major-league PA. Barreto has hit for pop and stolen some bases throughout the minor leagues, but rode the Sacramento-to-Oakland shuttle too frequently in recent years before he ran out of options. A competitive A's squad could no longer carry him on the active roster, hence the trade. Barreto cannot be sent to the minors without being exposed to waivers, so he stands a good chance of making the Angels in a reserve capacity. Despite the poor results so far, it is tough to write off his athleticism even with a 7:100 BB:K at the big-league level.
