Spiers fared well in his second go-round at Double-A Chattanooga in 2023 and was needed for MLB innings during the Reds' push for the postseason in September. In the minors, the right-hander's walk rate inched up, but Speirs' improved location within the strike zone resulted in a better strikeout percentage and significantly lowered home run rate. Desperate for pitching help in the majors, the Reds summoned Spiers from Double-A for four appearances (two starts) that went predictably awry.
