FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Picks

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

It's a little tricky to read the tea leaves on some of the stats given how much some lineups have changed since last week's trade deadline. Take into account players added and lost before buying too much into season-long team stats.

Pitching

Shohei Ohtani, LAA at TEX ($10,700): A thumb injury almost kept Ohtani out of tonight's contest, but as of Tuesday it looks like he'll be toeing the rubber in Arlington. Looking at Texas, they have been the third-worst team against right-handed pitching this season with a .295 wOBA, striking out 24.6 percent of the time (11th worst). While Joey Gallo contributed to those strikeouts, he was also a big reason why the team's wOBA wasn't much worse.  Gallo held a .367 wOBA against righties this season, a stat that went up to .413 at home.

Jon Gray, COL vs. CHC ($8,400): Gray is one of my favorite GPP plays as he won't be a popular selection at home. He's actually been fantastic of late, averaging 37.3 fantasy points over his last seven contests. Working in Gray's favor is a depleted Cubs lineup that no longer has Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant or Javier Baez. There should be at least four players who are hitting under .200 in the lineup for the Cubs and I'd take a look at the over on Gray's strikeout prop if you're into wagering.

Top Targets

Juan Soto, WAS vs. PHI ($4,200): By all means go ahead and use Vladimir Guerrero ($4,600), but Soto may fly a bit under the radar. He has a nice home matchup against Chase Anderson (6.75 ERA) and Soto has a .416 wOBA against right-handed pitching. Anderson hasn't gone more than four innings in any of his last six outings, so Soto should see some second/third tier pitching in this contest as well.

Ryan McMahon, COL vs. CHC ($3,900): There are a few different reasons to add McMahon to a lineup. First, he offers some positional flexibility by qualifying at both 2B and 3B (usually makes more sense to do the former than the latter) and he has an excellent Coors Field matchup. McMahon has a .413 wOBA at home this season against right-handed hitters, and Alec Mills has surrendered a .364 wOBA (.389 on the road) to left-handed hitters.

Value Bats

Jo Adell, LAA at TEX ($2,000): Adell was called up Monday after absolutely raking this season at Triple-A. His 23 home runs led to a .927 OPS and he went 8-for-10 on the basepaths as well. It didn't take long for him to make an impact last night with two doubles, a walk and a stolen base. Adell could find himself hitting higher in the order as a right-handed hitter going up against southpaw Kolby Allard.

Corey Dickerson, TOR vs. CLE ($2,000): Dickerson should be out there after coming off a IL stint, although he'll hit towards the bottom of the order. This is a good home matchup for him as J.C. Mejia has allowed a .437 wOBA to left-handed hitters, albeit in a small sample. The Jays also have one of the highest implied run totals on the night. Using both Adell and Dickerson will open up a lot of salary cap space to use on the rest of your lineup.

Stacks To Consider

Rockies vs. Mills: McMahon, Raimel Tapia ($3,200), Charlie Blackmon ($3,400), Trevor Story ($4,200)

This is a pretty logical stack with the Rockies playing at home. While Blackmon has been a disappointment this season he has a career .408 wOBA at home against right-handed pitching. Story still has a respectable .338 wOBA against righties at Coors this season and fills a position where fantasy points are hard to find.

Yankees vs. Matt Harvey: Anthony Rizzo ($4,000), Aaron Judge ($3,800), Joey Gallo ($3,500), Giancarlo Stanton ($3,500)

I have to eat some crow here after dogging Harvey for most of the season. To his credit, he comes into this game on a streak of 18.1 scoreless innings, but that might make DFS players shy away from this stack. I'm still getting used to seeing Rizzo and Gallo in the Yankees lineup but two lefties in New York against Harvey is too tempting to pass up. Both Stanton and Judge homered last night and the Yankees should put up a big number after scoring 13 on Tuesday night.
