MLB Wagers To Consider This Week

MLB Wagers To Consider This Week

This piece will run on a weekly basis through the end of the baseball season looking at both season-long wagers as well as what to watch for in the upcoming week of baseball. Let's look at some wagers to consider.

Season-Long Wagers

Indians To Win The American League +1000 at BetMGM

If pitching wins championships then the Indians have to be considered serious contenders. These odds are as low as +650, so finding these odds this high is a bonus. Shane Bieber has a strong argument for being the best pitcher in the league, Carlos Carrasco has the ability to be dominating and they have three young, capable arms at the back of their rotation. The starters have a combined 2.89 ERA entering Wednesday. On offense there have been problems getting production out of the team's outfield, but there's still enough talent on the roster to get enough runs to win over the course of a series. The hope is they win the division, giving them home-field advantage in the wild-card first-round series.

Padres To Win The National League +800 at BetMGM or FanDuel

The Padres are close to being the National League's version of the Indians considering their pitching staff. They have an actual starting pitcher from Cleveland's roster this year in Mike Clevinger and follow that with home-grown Dinelson Lamet (2.24 ERA). Chris Paddack would likely be the third pitcher called upon in a short series. He's allowed three or fewer runs in six of his nine starts.

Chris Paddack would likely be the third pitcher called upon in a short series. He's allowed three or fewer runs in six of his nine starts. The offense has been clicking on all cylinders despite playing in pitcher-friendly Petco Park with Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis leading the charge. Eric Hosmer will end up missing significant time with a fractured finger but the acquisition of Mitch Moreland should help soften that blow.

Weekly Wagers To Consider

The Angels are headed to Colorado this weekend, which brings up some interesting props. Griffin Canning will take the mound for the Angels on Friday night and it seems like a good idea to back Charlie Blackmon, Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story to homer in that game. Canning has allowed at least three earned runs in four of his last five starts and will be making his first appearance at Coors Field. Look for those three Rockies to be around +300/+400 in that game. If one hits a home run it should turn a profit and if two or more go yard that's just gravy.

Let's fast forward to Saturday. There are a few things that stick out, starting with the Tigers visiting the White Sox. Michael Fulmer has been horrible this season and Dallas Keuchel and his fantastic beard has been very good. I'd look at taking the White Sox -1.5 runs for around even money.

Sticking with Saturday, Kyle Hendricks from the Cubs starts at Milwaukee and has historically been much worse on the road than at home. I'll take the Brewers' over-runs number as long as it's at 3.5 to 4.5.

The final Saturday wager to look at is the Twins at home against Zach Plesac. While the starting pitching for the Indians has been top-notch, there's negative regression to the mean for Plesac. There's not a great chance with two-to-three more starts Plesac keeps his 1.32 ERA, so play the odds (he's on the road for this game) and bet the over on the Twins run total.

Onto Sunday, let's see what's going on. Max Scherzer was on fire last game, and it seems like he should continue his dominance in Sunday's game against Atlanta. The Braves haven't announced  a starter, so taking the Nationals money-line along with a -1.5 run line seems legit.

The Yankees/Orioles have scheduled J.A. Happ vs. John Means, which translates to two lefties against their respective teams. Both teams hit lefties well, so the over in this game (guessing 10.5 to 11.5) would be the wise choice.

The late game Sunday night features Cristian Javier vs. Julio Urias, and both teams hit southpaws very well. Let's go with the over in this game, which should be around 8.5 runs.

I hope you enjoyed this article, the odds listed were based on a $100 bet.
