Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

There is only one early start time Tuesday, leaving us with a ton of options to wade through for the main evening slate on Yahoo. With that being said, let's get right to it and highlight some players to consider targeting based on their favorable matchups.

Pitching Overview

The Astros continue their march towards the playoffs at home against the Rangers with Justin Verlander ($63) set to take the mound. He hasn't shown any signs of faltering down the stretch, allowing eight runs and recording 58 strikeouts over 43.1 innings in his last six starts. The Rangers got to him for four runs over four innings the first time he faced them this season, but he's held them to five runs over 26 innings since. While pricey, his upside is through the roof.

One of the more surprising turnarounds that we've seen this season has come from Yu Darvish ($48). He was extremely wild out of the gate, issuing 33 walks across his first 36.2 innings pitched. However, he seems to have corrected that problem by issuing just 18 walks over his last 95.1 innings. After holding four of his last five opponents to one or no runs, he once again makes for an appealing option.

Alex Young ($41) certainly has provided two very contrasting performances in his last two outings. After recording 12 strikeouts over eight scoreless innings against the Reds, the Mets scored six runs off of him across 2.2 innings in his last outing. It is important to note that only one of those six runs was earned. Overall, he's pitched well by allowing three earned runs or fewer in five straight starts. His chances of continuing that streak are certainly favorable since he will be facing a Marlins team that has scored the second-fewest runs in baseball.

Key Values/Chalk

With the Rockies once again playing at Coors Field, they figure to be among the most targeted lineups. Marcus Stroman will start for Mets and he hasn't been great of late, posting a 1.62 WHIP over his last seven starts. Among the better players on the Rockies to pursue is Charlie Blackmon ($19), who has a staggering .490 wOBA at home against right-handed pitchers.

Logan Webb has not pitched well since being recalled by the Giants, allowing at least four runs in three of his five starts. Things won't get any easier for him here on the road against the Red Sox. Mookie Betts ($27) is currently battling a foot injury, but even if he doesn't play, J.D. Martinez ($21), Rafael Devers ($19) and Xander Bogaerts ($18) could all still be in line for productive evenings.

The A's will continue their quest for a Wild Card spot against the Royals, who will send the underwhelming Jorge Lopez to the mound. He enters this contest with a 5.16 FIP and lefties have really given him trouble, which has resulted in them recording a .398 wOBA against him. This has the makings of the ideal matchup to deploy Matt Olson ($27), who is also hot right now having hit 27-for-81 (.333) with eight home runs and nine doubles over his last 21 games.

Stacks

Mets vs. Tim Melville (Rockies)

Pete Alonso (1B - $23), Jeff McNeil (3B - $23), Robinson Cano (2B - $24)

Both teams playing at Coors Field should be popular, especially with the Rockies sending Melville to the mound. After recording a lackluster 6.58 FIP at Triple-A, he has a 6.48 FIP across his first five starts with the Rockies. Alonso has one of the highest ceilings of any player any position for this slate when you factor in his power, Melville and Coors Field. Cano is also someone to strongly consider with him hitting 12-for-33 (.364) with three home runs across 11 games since coming off the IL.

Braves vs. Vince Velasquez (Phillies)

Ronald Acuna Jr. (OF - $16), Freddie Freeman (1B - $19), Josh Donaldson (3B - $22)

Velasquez has enticing talent, but he hasn't been able to put everything together yet at this point in his career. He's enduring another mediocre campaign with a 4.95 ERA and an even worse 5.44 FIP. One of his main areas of concern has been his inability to keep hitters inside the ball park, evident by the fact that he has allowed 2.1 HR/9. That could end up being his downfall against this trio. Any Braves stack should be built around Acuna, who is making a late push to enter the 40-40 club and can be had at a very budget-friendly price.

Mariners vs. Mitch Keller (Pirates)

Kyle Seager (3B - $21), Kyle Lewis (OF - $24), Omar Narvaez (C - $13)

Despite having a favorable matchup against the Giants at Oracle Park, Keller allowed five runs over five innings. That's the sixth time across nine starts that he's allowed at least four runs, which isn't going to get any better if he can't improve his 1.87 WHIP. Lewis has made a great impression over his six games with the team, hitting 9-for-25 (.360) with four home runs and two doubles. Narvaez not only checks in at a reasonable price at a difficult position to fill, but he's also having the best offensive season of his career with a .187 ISO.
